Double strikes influence your damage in three ways simultaneously:

  • The extra, second strike adds a damage packet
  • The double strike itself is faster than a regular strike
  • The strike following a double strike is faster than a regular strike

Double strike probability[edit]

Daggers have an inherent 3% probability to double strike (not 2%, as this wiki incorrectly states).
Each rank of Dagger Mastery gives an additional 2% probability to double strike. This stacks additively, not multiplicatively.
Locust's Fury gives an additional 50% probability to double strike. This stacks additively, not multiplicatively.
This means that the maximum attainable double strike probability is 3 + 2x20 + 50 = 93%.

Double strike influence on DPS[edit]

A regular single dagger strike lasts 1.330 seconds on average.
A double strike is faster than that even without IAS: 1.163 seconds on average.
A single strike following a double strike is faster than a regular even without IAS: 1.266 seconds on average.

Note that the frame of reference for strikes influences your terminology, but not the implications. I use a frame of reference that starts a strike's time directly after the previous hit, and ends exactly on hit. This is not a true representation of the attack animation, but makes it a lot easier to analyse the data.

For example, this is the timeline for a sequence of strikes in my frame:
regular-1 > double > regular-2 > regular-3 strikes:
|
| 1.330 s
|
regular-1
|
| 1.163 s
|
double
|
| 1.266 s
|
regular-2
|
| 1.330 s
|
regular-3

All in all, this means that the average attack speed of daggers is not 1.330 seconds, but faster, depending on your double strike probability. It is not enough to simply add one strike per 1.330 seconds per double strike, for your DPS calculations. The table below gives the average attack speed per rank of Dagger Mastery.
