Welcome to the think tank, home of crappy formatting and useful information. Yay for phones, eh?

The basics:

  1. Your skill is more important than your build. A monk that stands in fire is less useful than a N/Rt who knows how to triage through mesmers.
  2. Physicals are the highest dps in the game. Whenever you join a group or theorycraft a build, ask yourself "what does this character do that a critscythe can't?"
  3. A team needs a few things: damage, defense, healing, and support. Each character should dedicate himself to one of these and only dip into a second if he's great at the first.
    • For example, a monk can afford to take some support skills (hex removal, melee buffs, etc) because monks can be great healers with five skills. Similarly, smite monks and (good) hammer warriors are godly because they fill multiple roles with little drawback (save opportunity cost and diminishing returns).
  4. Critscythes are the best dps in the game, even single target. Strength scythes lag behind, but moebius db is strong if you can maintain it.
  5. Physical buffs and counters to the ai are extremely important. Dedicating two or even the characters to that kind of support is not a bad thing, usually.

Questions? Ask away.

Builds[edit]

The next 2 UW runs have already listed builds for all 8 participants. These builds are all builds I don't want or can't run. People here maybe know that I like to create builds by myself, and besides effective I want to run something I enjoy to play. If we continue on this way consider myself excluded. I hope we can discuss the builds for future runs more. -- Cyan User Cyan Light sig.jpg 12:00, 1 December 2010 (UTC)

This is partially a side effect of Raine and I e-peening over our builds and playing philosophies. -- Armond WarbladeUser Armond sig image.png{{Bacon}} 16:15, 1 December 2010 (UTC)
You're more than welcome to propose a date and a build (or lack thereof). :>
I generally prefer BYOB, but I would like to test my theorycraft at some point, as Armond alluded to above. — Raine Valen User Raine R.gif 16:26, 1 Dec 2010 (UTC)
Point is that I don't think its a good idea that I create group builds. I mean to say that you only need to give me a profession and I will find a suited build (for myself only). Sure, I can run standard HB and also Elementalist builds, but I want to create them for myself! You may give all the other players builds, but not me! =P -- Cyan User Cyan Light sig.jpg 22:01, 1 December 2010 (UTC)
When we host BYOBs you can run whatever you want. That won't be too far from now, hopefully. -- Armond WarbladeUser Armond sig image.png{{Bacon}} 22:11, 1 December 2010 (UTC)
While thinking along is encouraged, the problem is that is often turns into thinking against. If everyone wants to run what they want to, there will be little synergy, and the team will be much less effective. Furthermore, in the builds Armond and Raine created, changing one bar also means other bars are affected as well so there is little room for variety. Finally, most of the builds used empathize skill over skills (which is, from what I understand, the whole reason for this shit). Now, that should not be a problem for you, Cyan, but not everyone is equally gifted. Koda User Koda Kumi UT.jpeg Kumi 10:13, 2 December 2010 (UTC)
I dont know if I need to feel flattered or harassed by that.. Recognizing sarcasm is not my cup of tea after midnight. -- Cyan User Cyan Light sig.jpg 23:13, 2 December 2010 (UTC)
You sound like an intelligent person, so I really meant what I said. I still hate you though. Koda User Koda Kumi UT.jpeg Kumi 17:42, 5 December 2010 (UTC)
Hating is overrated, but you are allowed to do it. -- Cyan User Cyan Light sig.jpg 21:59, 5 December 2010 (UTC)
