I post this not as a fan of race specialization, but rather as an enemy of the "well-rounded" concept of humans which seems to be all the rage in every other MMO RPG I've ever played.
I'm thinking humans look like they'd fit in best as mesmers or assassins (if either of those are in the next game) and they might also make good rangers, but they'll be competing with Charr in that. Perhaps humans could be the nuanced and articulate race. They could have slightly lowered casting times and/or faster attack rates with bows, wands, and melee weapons.
If approaching an enemy unnoticed is possible at all in GW2 then humans should probably have an advantage here as well. If race-specific attributes are in the wind then I think humans should be the ones to get the "charisma" attribute people have been talking about adding. Personally, I think it should be called "guile" but anyway...
If anyone doesn’t' like this idea, by the way, I vehemently encourage them to post their own thoughts on what the human advantages should be. And if you're in support of the "well-rounded" monstrosity, then I beg you to post an article defending it so I can at least know why game developers keep using it (assuming it isn't just intellectual laziness or an attempt to give players the opportunity to work in multiple fields while never being able to excel in any one of them).
- Why this is a good idea
- It would set GW2 apart from some of its competitors.
- It would finally give players a reason to play as a human, since the "well-rounded" idea has never (and I mean NEVER) really worked out.
- Why it may not work out
- Fans may be bewildered and thus disenfranchised by this new take on the human race.
- Humans are typically the race used as the base line for comparison with other races.
