Preface[edit]

This is a little story of a conversation I had with a player in Random Arena. This is not about a flame wars or a pointless argument that are often found in RA discussions but simply a mere conversation between me and someone I do not know. The reason I am writing this is simply because I never would have thought the conversation would build up into a large amount of lies and made-up stuff because he didn't choose the right person to make up bullshit to.

The Story[edit]

On the night of April 3rd 2010, Bamboo (from the Rebel Rising guild (aka rawr) who has won many gold capes) and Mrtva (a friend of us) were on vent and having a good time talking about stuff while awaiting to sync RA. While I was waiting for them in a foreign district we usually hang out in, my buds were finishing a Vanquishing in Kryta. There is a person who's always hanging out in the same district we do and we happened to /wave to each other and say Hi a couple of times in the past without ever playing together or being anything that I could call friends. We merely knew each other's name in a RA foreign district and waved to each other here and there. During that night, this mystery person engaged a conversation with me in private chat.

It started off simply by him asking me whether I was a male of female (since I'm playing a lot on a female character with a female name and I was currently on that character) to which I modestly answered "No, I'm a guy, call me Sylv". This little talk went on for a minute or so until the mystery person decided to talk about Guild Wars and ask me what do I usually run in this arena. I pinged him two bars and mentioned out of pure honesty that one of them should not be played by an average frontliner because it's tricky to be efficient with it. It was a mere warning since I did not know how good or bad this player is but his response was certainly...interesting. He stated "lol I'm not average", "I play weird builds like this" which I bluntly believed and responded kindly "I see I see, then feel free to try it." Then I tell him in words some other classes I play and proceed to explain him that I'm retired from serious play and that I mostly mess around in Random Arenas to which he wrote back a smiley face and told me that he was pretty serious every time he played. With semi-humorous intentions, I tell him to "go play GvG it's srs business xD" to which he replied "I would be max champ if I had won all the matches I did in champ range" which I was pretty surprised to read.

Interested in his words, I question him about his previous guilds and this is where the mess began. He mentionned being part of The Last Pride [EvIL] : the guild on the championship trophy in GTOB. I'm not going to lie but I've played with 2 of EvIL core members in serious PvP and always looked up to this guild to get better at the game (so I know most of the names of their core players) but his name did not ring a bell at all to me. Therefore I politely added that his claim "is hard to believe". He tempered his words by saying he was only leeching for them which I can believe since he likes leeching but all EvIL leechers were all kicked at some point. At this point, I can feel he's making things up as we're talking and he's trying to impress me by mentioning the name of the best guilds in the game that he's been into but immediately backs up when I display a little bit of knowledge and experience related to that guild. I simply asked him what popular GvG guilds he was in since he made a reference to having played GvG a lot. Out of nowhere, Bamboo says on vent after a long silence "So Sylv so you're making friends in RA?" in a jokingly manner that shocked me a little as I positively replied and plunged back into that conversation with the RA guy.

Out of pure interest for the old days, I mention to him my experiences with EvIL players and we went on a little about that. Now one of his replies shocked me even more. "I guested a couple of times for rawr" he said unknowing that I was currently in vent with a player from Rebel Rising [rawr]. I mention his name to Bamboo and his response stunned me for a second as Bamboo said his name "rings a bell". At this point, I became confused as to whether this random guy could be a really good player or a wannabe. I let him know that I'm currently on vent with Bamboo who proceeded to tell me this "Sylv ask him what's the password to rawr vent" which I did. While waiting for a definite answer, Bamboo explains to me that whenever someone is guesting for rawr, they make it clear that the password to rawr vent is the definite proof that you have guested for rawr (pretty cool uh?). The RA guy cannot come up with an answer and then kind of changes subject saying his memory is bad and starts talking about the players from rawr. Finally, I tell him what Bamboo explained to me as a final test to which he answered "I don't remember that". The rest of the conversation can be summarized as him attempting to make up more stuff to cover up the random bullshit he made up like "I guested for many guilds with a rawr tag", "no, never with a trim" (Rebel Rising is a gold-trimmed guild) and finally "it must have been a dream". Can lies get any more pathetic than this?

Final Words[edit]

To sum it up, this guy chose the wrong dude to talk to because I know factual stuff about the two guilds he mentioned that are, out of pure coincidence, the best two guilds in Guild Wars history. I will never understand that kind of player who will make up a plethora of lies in order to impress a stranger. Lies don't get any more pathetic than when they're told to someone who knows the truth. After relaxing a bit about that event on vent, I noticed the RA player started entering games and coming back to the outpost regularly. I can tell every time he did come back to the district, his character was gazing at mine from afar, since my words were no lies.
