Lore[edit]

Tale[edit]

Tydus stood stoically on his poduim, shuffling papers and looking impatiently at the crowd of gathered people. There was only one more conscript scheduled to report that day. Where was that damned Elementalist from Nolani? He turned his attention back to his papers, checking off who had already reported. Matthew of Serenity Temple. Tameka from Wizard's Folly. Corell of Ashford. From behind him he heard the sound of someone clearing their throat. Looking up swiftly, Tydus viewed a young man obviously wishing to appear as noble as possible. His dark hair was cut short and styled expertly, and his face was shaved smooth and flawless. His clothing was a standard Nolani Apprentice's outfit, but he managed to carry that with such an air of nobility. His haughtiness seemed almost Orrian, Tydus thought. He ruffled through his papers until he found a name. "Valentein of Nolani?" Tydus asked. "Yes sir, reporting for duty." Valentein affirmed. Tydus sighed with relief. A cold ale was calling his name, and this was the last conscript. "I've been looking for you everywhere, Valentein. The king has ordered a new offensive against the Charr..."

Details[edit]

Name: Valentein
Origin: Ascalon
Age: 18/20/21/23/26
Birthdate: 45, Season of the Zephyr, 1052 AE
Birthplace: Ashford Village, Lakeside County, Kingdom of Ascalon
Affiliations: Ascalon Vanguard, Deldrimor Dwarves, Lionguard, Shining Blade, Kurzick Nation, Order of the Sunspears

History[edit]

Valentein was born in Ashford Village to a farming couple. His mother, Anne, was from a family that had roots in Ashford for generations. His father, however, was a foreigner, a stranger from Orr. Although the people of Ashford were kind enough, having gotten to know and trust Casimir through everything from droughts to raids by Grawl or Bandits, many of the people from Ascalon City were wary around him and his new family. In his youth, Valentein showed less aptitude for farming and more for scholarly pursuits, which his parents both encouraged. Valentein often dreamed of the gods, and when he spoke of this his parents had considered taking him to Ashford Abbey to study as a monk, along with Anne's brother Lawrence. However, this changed when Valentein lit the stove on his own, with no flint or tinder. Realizing his aptitude at Elemental magic, Valentein studied it earnestly on his own, until the day his father vanished. Anne, who had left to look for him, was killed by wolves near Green Hills County. No-one in the village had known what happened to Casimir, and many assumed he was dead as well. The funeral they held for Anne was, in spirit, for both of them. Here, Valentein met Prince Rurik for the first time. Rurik arranged to pay for Valentein to attend the Nolani Academy of Arcane Arts near Rin. Here, Valentein leared to refine his art, and was at the head of his class. Which made him a prime subject for King Adelbern's new conscription effort, and Valentein was asked to join the Ascalon Army.

Behavior[edit]

Valentein, since the Searing, has bothered keeping neither his hair nor his beard trimmed or neat. His hair, now a long and tangled mess, hangs down his back. His beard, although scraggly and thin, fits well with his jawline and cheekbones. Although taking less care of his appearance, he still carries himself with haughtiness, though much less severe. Since the loss of his parents he became emotionally despondent, and even more so since the Searing, his anger and hatred of the Charr fueling his fire magic throughout his Ascalon campaign. His mood affects his choice of elemental magic in varying degrees, with anger and hatred calling up fire magic while sadness or hopelessness calls forth water magic.
