User talk:Lensor/Guild template

Just an FYI, we've already been through this, and the community opted to keep them as they are, without the additional information. Also, the policy discussion came to the conclusion that no color variants were going to be allowed, so having the color options is actually a violation of policy, so unless you wish to propose changes to the policy, you might as well remove them. -- Wyn User Wynthyst sig icon2.png talk 12:42, 1 October 2009 (UTC)

Work in progress that got to big to be sitting in my sandbox, hence the disclaimer. ;) I read through the old discussions and could not find any consensus at all regarding the infobox, just a general implosion of hurt feelings killing the project. Unless the decision is archived elsewhere? Anyway, I on the guild infobox talkpage suggested adding an "optional" parameter. This would basically be a coverall parameter to allow some customization by inclusion without having to mess with the template itself. How it could work is sitting in my sandbox.
About the color thing, since I could not find anything in neither policy nor formating guidelines disallowing color/formating variants (I read them quite carefully, so suspect the discussions never made it into the actual documents?), and there are also a LOT of guild pages presently with colored background, I saw no reason for not including it (however I made text always black, so only light colors would be possible). But if I missed something written in policy I will of course ommit that parameter.--Lensor (talk) 13:58, 1 October 2009 (UTC)
Guild Wars Wiki talk:Guild pages/draft 052508 a giant portion of that discussion was on what amout of color customization to allow, and where we ended up was the language that the default templates were required (meaning no alteration to color or form). So yes, it does specify in the policy that the templates cannot contain colors other than the default. -- Wyn User Wynthyst sig icon2.png talk 16:32, 1 October 2009 (UTC)
I am not changing the color of the template, only of the guild page itself, so I do not see how that applies in this case.--Lensor (talk) 16:49, 1 October 2009 (UTC)
You're right, my mistake. just pretend I was never here. -- Wyn User Wynthyst sig icon2.png talk 16:53, 1 October 2009 (UTC)
Nah, I just got a little confused there, thinking I missed some crucial policy somewhere. Anyway, I would really appreciate your input on my "optional" parameter suggestion. Of course, it would be more geared towards the advanced user (other people could just ignore it), but I think it would be a very helpful addition. --Lensor (talk) 18:04, 1 October 2009 (UTC)
I don't much like a complete page template, given that they are provided with the preload if they use the F10 menu to start (which a great number of new guild pages do). Providing an alternative template would only confuse people. -- Wyn User Wynthyst sig icon2.png talk 18:24, 1 October 2009 (UTC)
Sorry, I meant the addition of an "optional" parameter for the guild infobox template suggested in the guildbox talk (showcased in my sandbox), as a way for users to get for instance the NPC list into the box without having to alter the actual guildbox template. The page template here I am not suggesting to become "official" and confuse people, just a little something for those interested. :) Dont know what using the F10 menu means... --Lensor (talk) 20:02, 1 October 2009 (UTC)
F10 Menu in game lets you access recent things that might have wiki articles, like your Guild, or Guilds in your alliance. -- FreedomBoundUser Freedom Bound Sig.png 20:09, 1 October 2009 (UTC)
Doh, that..thought it was some kind of wiki specific thingie. --Lensor (talk) 20:40, 1 October 2009 (UTC)
