Nice article. I learned some stuff from it even though I'm not a mesmer. May I suggest however that you start the article with discussing Power Block, since that is the heart of the build? It might make a little more sense that way. 145.94.74.23 08:39, 19 December 2008 (UTC)

I thought that Power Block would make for a good epic finale, so I was saving it. I still don't think this really compares to the derv guide, though. Prose 23:21, 19 December 2008 (UTC)

PLeaking Shock? >_>[edit]

Unless I'm nuts, Shock is a skill, not a spell. It cannot be Power Leaked. Arshay Duskbrow 09:57, 20 December 2008 (UTC)

Hmm. That's dumb, it should be a spell as much as Mending Touch is. Oh well, shows what I know. Prose 06:18, 21 December 2008 (UTC)

PBlock isn't the instant win skill that people say it is; if your RC gets PBlocked, your fronlines should start linebacking immediately until your things recover. Also PLeak isn't as useful as the article makes it sound. Currently E-denial is at best mediocre since key monk spells are 5 energy and the ones that aren't are made up for by the metric boatload of off monk defence.-Sorale74.130.73.192 09:04, 7 January 2009 (UTC)

I agree that there ARE alternatives to PBlock... being the reason so many MoI mezzes are running around now. But criticizing PLeak? It's one of the most godly skills on a mesmer... who cares if the monks cast primarily 5e skills (and since when have they not?)? If they don't have the energy to cast shit, they're not gonna cast shit. The skills has been meta for ages because it works well. --75.175.2.66 05:19, 10 January 2009 (UTC)

Diversion and 40/40 sets[edit]

Against a decent team you will only ever land half cast Diversions, so you are better taking the 40/40, using it every time and basing your timing on the half cast and assuming every normal cast will be interrupted. --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:Misery (talk). 09:23, 7 January 2009 (UTC)

:/[edit]

that diversion list is really terrible. Diversion exists to knock RC out of the game, followed by WoH. The only other skills you might rarely use it for is wounding strike (right at the beginning of the match, the derv is going to cspace to a target and he always has WS queued) and the occasional assassin attack chain. If you divert a lead attack, the sin sits there for a full minute without doing anything. Other than that, though... diversion isn't worth the 10 energy. The article suggests diverting dash, pblock, diversion, wail of doom... those are all things you never waste time on. Hell, you don't *ever* throw diversion on a flagger unless for some reason you're on the split (and since you're a mesmer, that should never be the case). I don't have time to correct the rest of the article, but if the rest of it follows that lead, I'm not sure it'll be good :< -Auron 10:59, 13 January 2009 (UTC)

/agreed with Auron. Now its time for my 2 cents. But let me say first...Raine, I love you very much. Second...I see you aren't the author of the article so hopefully he/she checks on this side every so often.
Power Leak: This skill hold a very special place in my heart. I think Katina said it best when she described it as "punishment for casting a spell".
-"Power Leaking a Channeling Monk is utterly pointless, because as long as Channeling is up, sixteen lost energy won’t hurt, and will be regained shortly. This is the reason Mesmers in HA won’t bring Power Leak."
Not true. Good Mesmers will bring it, or should...but the real reason many HA mesmers do not use Pleak is because with Cry you have more anti-res sig/anti-Claim Resource utility, especially if your Mesmer chooses Pblock over PD.
I would Pleak a Channeling Monk--in fact I do Pleak them as they cast Channeling, and I will tell you why...if you're doing your job and stripping veils/HB's/Channelings...Pleaking that skill will make them cry. Purge and I both bring Pleak, and thats because a.) we also play Monks, so we know what hurts, and b.) we really get it when it comes to playing Mesmer properly. The fact that most Monks in HA are so dependant on Channeling makes it completely worthwhile, not 'utterly useless" as stated in your article.
-"Power Leak will still hurt a monk with GoLE, so don’t ignore them completely, just don’t expect as much shutdown on it."
People tend to give too much credit towards Channeling and Glyph of Lesser Energy--when used correctly, yes, they can improve energy management, but a good Mesmer knows how to use benefits against another player. Glyph is your signal many times that a big spell is coming up--an Aegis, a Ward--thus I will usually prepare my internal timer for an interupt or a Diversion. When a Monk Glyphs smaller spells like RoF sometimes that can also be a signal that they are running low on energy or they are saving up for a bigger cast--again possibly an Aegis or Spirit Bond/Prot Spirit. This will actually HELP your shut down...especially after Anet added the "cancel" technique with Glyph to count as if they had cast a spell making it easier to Divert a WoH, Pleak a Guardian and so forth...or going back to my earlier point about interupting Channeling and using your enchant removals properly. In fact, if you see a GOLE and then they cast Guardian...omg Pleak that!
-"Landing a Power Leak on either of these spells--more likely Shock"
You can't Pleak Shock, its a "skill" not a "spell/chant". Power Leak, Power Block, Power Spike, Power Drain, Power Lock etc.--all only interupt chants and spells.
-"Your bar doesn’t have much as far as melee shutdown, but one of the places such shutdown lies is in Power Leak."
A Mesmer running the bar you're talking about is not meant to do melee shutdown.
-"Key spells to Divert--Diversion"
Not interupt it? Why not Power Block it, Power Drain it or Power Leak it? I would chose one of those options first before Diverting it. It has a downtime, so its better to a.) destroy their energy pool with a well placed Pleak or shut them down completely with Pblock...especially since Diversion is an easy spell to interupt--both by cast time, sound effect and cast animation. Save your Diversion for fast spells like WoH, Bsurge, Crip Shot--skills and spells like that. But that's just me.--*Yasmin Parvaneh* User yasmin parvaneh sig.png 22:49, 7 February 2009 (UTC)
