2009-02-05 The Asssissin gets nerfed again[edit]

Anet nerfs Dancing Daggers (DD), so that the skill only count as a lead attack, if you hit a foe with it. Previously DD always counted as a lead attack, as stated in the skill description. Dancing Daggers is not a lead attack nor a dagger attack; it is a half-range spell that when cast, counts as a lead attack. But Anet writes:

  • Fixed a bug that caused Dancing Daggers to count as a lead attack when daggers missed their target.

The nerf makes it impossible to activate a skill that requires a lead attack, without a line of sight. Before the nerf, it was possible to use the build shown below, to damage a foe (without a line of sight), and shadow step to the foe, inflict a deep wound, and finish it off:

The Template Code for the build is OwNS4YPP8I3sWDi9mNJSMUC.

i agree on the fact that this sucks for this build... i personaly think they should leave pve skills as they are (just fix real bugs like skills that dont do what the discription says) and make balance changes to the pvp variant. that way people wont be bothered that theyre farming or fav. pve build wont work one day on an other.

"(just fix real bugs like skills that dont do what the discription says)"
That is exactly what Anet did when they fixed this bug. I'm going to assume you know nothing about assassin balance (based on the content of this page, I think that's a fair assumption). Let me tell you somethings about assassin balance.
Landing a lead attack is a huge deal. If a lead attack misses, you are completely shut down until it is recharges (or unless you have another one). Getting a lead attack for free (which is what this skill does) was broken, and getting it at a range is still overpowered.
Assassins shouldn't have knockdowns. This skill allows you to use one. Again, this comes at a non-existent cost (the 100 damage more than makes up for the energy you invested).
It does not say "When you cast this, you land a lead attack." It says "This counts as a lead attack." That means, well, it counts as a lead attack. It follows all rules other lead attacks follow. Most importantly, if it doesn't hit, it doesn't count as having hit.
I hope I've shed some light onto the reasons for nerfing this skill. ~Shard User Shard Sig Icon.png 05:19, 4 January 2010 (UTC)
Eh, it's barely relevant to the skill's effectiveness. It's only a problem if you're staring at a wall, in which case urdoinitrong. Dark Morphon 17:23, 5 January 2010 (UTC)
