Errr.... anyone care to explain what thats all about? didnt we see something like this over on gwo and guru a bit back. I think we worked out then that cloud9 or some such company like that has been given distribution rights for gw but for some reason they arent bothering with the game and are now just jerking the chinese players about alot and anet cant do anything about it. I think Gaile's answer last time was a more long winded and polite version of "we feel your pain but we cant do anything about it" -- Salome 12:24, 7 November 2007 (UTC)

Hello. The OP contains three translations of the same Chinese text, just to let you know. There was a server issue today in China, and the Guild Wars Beta was temporarily inaccessible. That issue has been resolved and you should be able to play again. -- Gaile User gaile 2.png 21:23, 7 November 2007 (UTC)
Update: A few players have reported that they experienced lost items as a result of the glitch on the Chinese beta server. We're investigating, but at this point, there are no plans for a rollback or other amendments. The prime question that I know a lot of players want answered is, "Does this affect my account in Europe, or North America?" The answer is "Definitely not." The issue with the server was connected only to the Chinese beta, and no accounts in Europe or North America were impacted in any way. -- Gaile User gaile 2.png 23:29, 7 November 2007 (UTC)

(Reset indent) I wanted to give one further update on this matter: As I said previously, we are very sorry for the problems that a few of our beta testers experienced earlier this week related to a server hardware failure.

I talked to the server operations team about the matter and here’s what I’ve learned from them: the primary database server crashed due to a hardware failure, and when it did, the secondary server came on line. That’s a good thing because you want your back-up server to come into operation when you have a crash of the primary server. Unfortunately there was an error in the secondary server which resulted in a period of time where passwords were not required to access accounts. This problem only occurs when using the 64-bit version of SQL server, which is what is being used for the beta test in China; in other countries the database is running on the 32-bit version of SQL server, which doesn’t have this particular problem.

The operations team feels very fortunate to have discovered this particular error during a beta test and not during live operations, where it would have been a significant issue, so it has actually been a valuable educational experience. The programmer who was on call that night was alerted to the issue and applied a patch soon after it started. The highest number of beta testers who could have been affected by this would be around 500, but we believe that the actual number is much lower, perhaps as few as 50 testers.

Had this occurred on the live servers we would have immediately performed a “roll back” of the database, but due to the fact that a roll-back could negatively affect other aspects of the ongoing beta test, there are no plans to perform a rollback at the present.

Again, we’re quite sorry about the problems that some folks experienced. We’re always trying to improve the game, and appreciate everyone's help during the beta test. -- Gaile User gaile 2.png 05:02, 10 November 2007 (UTC)
