[edit] Grind

I hate grinding as much as you do. I can work toward any title, but I don't feel like it so I just bounce around through the titles doing stuff. Unless of course its something easy that can be done pretty quickly like Protector titles. --Image:User Hellbringer sig.pngHeLlBrInGeR talk 00:37, 4 December 2007 (UTC)

You mistake me! I don't mind grind at all. Put on some heavy metal, maybe an audio clip or something, it's fine. It's when, like in Guild Wars, it does absolutely nothing for the character. It feels like ANet is trying to own (not pwn) us. 10,000 minutes of my life for some stupid drunk title? Puh-lease. Vael Victus 18:59, 18 December 2007 (UTC)

What are you trying to do with it exactly? Obviously you can't show me, since its not working, but I'm confused on how to help. — THARKUN 05:16, 8 April 2008 (UTC)

You know, this has been happening a lot lately. I'll write a message to [x] person saying what my problem is, and in the process, figure it out. o.o; Thank you. I guess I just needed to space it more. Vael Victus 13:55, 8 April 2008 (UTC)
Nevermind. Look, I can just type in your thing User_talk:Tharkun|THARKUN with the [[ ]] and it'll work. But when I put in my name, REGARDLESS if I try to bring the space with " " or "_", it won't make a link. Just a bolded word. :( <a href='http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/User:Vael_Victus'>Vael Victus</a> 14:04, 8 April 2008 (UTC)
Something like this: - Vael Victus ? Or with your talk page: Vael Victus talk . Or even split your name to cover both: Vael Victus. Some things to keep in mind when looking at the code: you can use font or span; I just mixed it up because I was borrowing from another green-signatured user who uses span. It doesn't matter except as much as you prefer to follow w3c conventions. Also, links to the page you're currently on don't make links; they simply go bold and do nothing. Thus, your talk page link won't work when its on your own talk page, and your username link won't work when its on your userpage. Don't feel stupid.. well, you can, but know that I was just as confused as you about this until I asked for help too. So at least you have company. But if you sign elsewhere with any of those options (like my usertalk page, if you want to test), it should work just fine; I previewed the changes there and they all seemed to work. Hope that helps. — THARKUN 18:49, 8 April 2008 (UTC)
You're welcome for the help. By the way, though, if you want to use an image in your sig, you need to upload it separately for your use. So in this case, you'll need to download the Insidious Parasite image, rename it to User Vael Victus sig (or something starting with User Vael Victus) and then reupload it at Special:Upload. You can then change the link in your sig to point to it instead of IP. That's per the rules in the user policy, which you can reference if you have any questions (or post here or on my talk page). If you have any questions, let me know. — THARKUN 21:31, 8 April 2008 (UTC)
Looks good! — THARKUN 04:50, 9 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Me too

I see you do AB and trade Passage scrolls and Jade shards. I trade Passage scrools, personally. What i tend to do is wait for a day when they sell for 150g or more (I sold around 16 for 170g once) and then sell them all then. You make more money, but it does require extreme patience.--Burning Freebies 13:46, 15 April 2008 (UTC)

Now I could look in the history to see who said this, but I kinda like the idea of a mystery writer. Okay, so cool, thanks for the PROTIP I guess. Honestly I just made like 35k by selling those stupid zaishen keys, man, NO ONE knows how to get them. xD So yeah I mean the shards are nice, but in comparison... :P Vael Victus Pancakes. 00:52, 12 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Hello

The section above and Regina's talk page are perfect examples of how some of your recent comments are unnecessary. Keep your comments civil without personally attacking other people. -- Brains12 \ Talk 01:14, 16 April 2008 (UTC)

How did I attack you? =S — Eloc 03:12, 16 April 2008 (UTC)
Obviously I wanted to keep the mystery reader. I liked the idea of the mystery reader. But you, trolling under the guise of being a nice little sysop, so helpfully ruined the fun for me. It's my talk page, you really didn't improve the wiki at all by putting that person's name there. What's worse is me, being very very slightly angry, just called you a faggot for it. However, I felt it was a bit much, ( 'cuz wiki people are obviously very sensitive) so I just put "asshole", but then you had the nerve to tell me to behave myself, when you first trolled me!!! !!! And that's what happened. Honestly I feel your little "be nice to people" stuff is total bullshit, I mean, our world's tearing itself at the seams, and the most you people can worry about is whether someone calls someone an asshole on the internet. Like seriously, lol. Vael Victus Pancakes. 15:44, 16 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Hey

Hey, hows it going Vael. Good to see you still playing. Solostaran 21:27, 16 April 2008 (UTC)

Hey, thanks. :P I'm a bit on-and-offy but it's cool. I heard you got into another guild. I saw it, too. Honestly I was thinking of joining 'cuz the guild I'm with now (your sister's) does shit for PvP, and pretty much anything unrelated to Big's titles. ._.;; Vael Victus Pancakes. 23:49, 16 April 2008 (UTC)
Yeah, I started a guild with a bunch of friends I met. My Sister's was a great place to start out learning things, but I have more or less moved on from that level of play. Been doing a lot of RA/GvG/HA, been good times. High end PvP is quite a bit of fun when you have the people to play with you. PvE gets boring fast, but they enjoy it, so I moved on, I still stay in contact with them. Solostaran 00:42, 17 April 2008 (UTC)
Is there room open in your guild? And would you have a good way to contact me (xfire, soulseek) if I joined? Vael Victus Pancakes. 20:12, 17 April 2008 (UTC)
I responded to you on my page mate, but from reading your user page I can see you really want to get into high end PvP and unfortunately LaZy doesn't do ANY PvP. (which is a shame) Of course if you fulfill our requirements you're still welcome to join but at the same time I dont want you to be bored if you do. So was just a heads up. :) -- Salome 12:56, 8 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] name

what's it supposed to mean? i know the quote "vae victis" from kaine in legacy of kain, blood omen I, so i'd guess you just couldn't understand clearly what he says (me neither, but i could guess it from latin) :P - Y0_ich_halt 18:06, 9 June 2008 (UTC)

A bunch of utopian friends of mine are working toward a secret goal I'm not going to tell you about. Since I'm the head (founder) of the project, we decided to go with Vael Victus as a name for the universal body we possess. Around each other, they call me Vael, and everyone behind him (him being the internet entity) has chosen a letter to represent themselves by for cleanliness purposes. So, the guy who trolls a lot of people as me is actually Mael, because I don't really like trolling that much, and the guy who is writing a book as me we just call Sael.
Getting back to your question, Vael Victus was chosen by a random name generator (we spent about an hour deciding upon it) because it rolls off the tongue and we could do the letter thing with it.
Anything else? We have a website at www.vaelvictus.com if you're too lazy to google. ;) Vael Victus Pancakes. 19:19, 9 June 2008 (UTC)
wow, i love randomized latin-sounding names! :D - Y0_ich_halt 19:45, 9 June 2008 (UTC)
So do we. Incidently, "victus" also means "lively", so we lucked out with that one. Vael Victus Pancakes. 19:46, 9 June 2008 (UTC)
not really. victus is the beaten one (i.e. the one who lost to the winner, victor) ;) you could say vael is a typo and it was supposed to be "vale" ("live well", as in "stay healthy") XD "vale victus" would actually be correct (though not really great) latin and mean "cheer up, loser". - Y0_ich_halt 19:53, 9 June 2008 (UTC)
Saying "not really" has always prompted me to actually go through the loops to prove you wrong and in the process be rude as I am now.
"victus : living, manner of life / nourishment, food. "
As of http://www.archives.nd.edu/cgi-bin/lookit.pl?latin=victus
http://www.freedict.com/onldict/onldict.php that one too. Do you claim to know latin better than two different sources? Vael Victus Pancakes. 19:58, 9 June 2008 (UTC)
second link is broken ;) i do understand that need to prove the other wrong, i have it too. so i apologize, coulda thought of that beforehand. victus does indeed have two meanings. the first is the one coming from "vincere" (to beat s.o. or to win), victus is the past participle, which can also be used as a passive personification, giving it the meaning "the beaten one". the totally different meaning is the one mentioned as second meaning in good dictionaries: food, etc, but not lively. lively would be "vivens", "vitalis", "valens". won't beat me with that, i have a printed dictionary and i'm gonna use it ;)> (and four years of latin lessons). - Y0_ich_halt 20:15, 9 June 2008 (UTC)
Food it is. Thank you! Vael Victus Pancakes. 21:25, 9 June 2008 (UTC)

Oh shit I completely didn't see this at all. Well we usually don't talk unless we know we're right so I'll prod you to see what's going on. oo; Vael Victus Pancakes. 22:52, 3 July 2008 (UTC)
Oh, this was about this comment you made about skill, which is...completely false. Skill is how well you use your build and other game mechanics at your disposal. — Teh Uber Pwnzer 23:39, 3 July 2008 (UTC)
But babe that was obviously sarcasm. o.o; I'm quite aware of how to have skill in GW. I'd type it up, but we'd end up agreeing. I've actually got like three or four saved builds for RA and AB that test your skill and quick-thinking skills. I was merely remarking that people just go to PvX wiki and find some build which is genuinely viable in battle, and it does unfortunately work against the people with original builds they thought of themself. Vael Victus Pancakes. 01:24, 4 July 2008 (UTC)

[edit] New PvP o.O

Hi there, funny guy^^. I saw what you wrote on your front page about a new random random PvP. And I'm still gasping for air to overcome the shock I'm in after finding such a BRILLIANT idea! If the different builds would be many and still balanced, this would be truly bringing the essence of the original Guild Wars back to the game. A game based upon skills and skills only. (At least for this part of the game) /Signed, stamped, and sent to AN - twice! -- Titus The Third 05:41, 20 June 2008 (UTC)

if there were premade builds (not really sensical ones, but premades) that would surely be usable at all (like the hero brawling was), that would be really great, but if you really only mix 8 skills of your primary and a random secondary, you will definetely get builds like this:
Twisting Fangs
Twisting Fangs
Death Blossom
Death Blossom
Blades of Steel
Blades of Steel
Way of the Master
Way of the Master
Shadow Refuge
Shadow Refuge
Shadow Walk
Shadow Walk
Flourish
Flourish
Frenzy
Frenzy

totally random, and totally useless. that would make games depend fully on luck. so to integrate something like these arenas, anet would either have to configure a generator which would throw together random, playable builds or they would have to make premades again. no already released mmo will ever get an addition like that past-release. especially if the devs are already making the next game. i do like the idea though ^^ - Y0_ich_halt 12:36, 20 June 2008 (UTC)

Mmm... no. If you do pre-made builds, then everyone will just memorize all the stupid builds and it'll be buildwars again. Builds in GW generally need most of the skills to do their amazing combo's. So the match starts, you're given one random elite, a res sig, and six other skills. You've got 30 seconds to figure out what to do with them. There's a lot of elites out there to mess with. The chance someone will get an "amazing build" is not much, and the chance they know how to use their "amazing build" is even less likely.
This also encourages people to use different skills and think differently... if they start winning with Well of Power, maybe they'll want to start using it in other places! :D Vael Victus Pancakes. 12:47, 20 June 2008 (UTC)
PS: and if you are worried about bad builds like you posted, which I'm sure would just be a rare scenario in itself, then the GW team of course will put a little effort into making sure if you're a sin, that you'll have a lead, off-hand, and dual attack. Vael Victus Pancakes. 12:47, 20 June 2008 (UTC)
please don't start with the "mm..no.", ok? we had that already. ;) also, the chance that you get a useless build is actually pretty high if you really mix 6 totally random skills from two classes, limit to four attributes or three or not. even if you get a combination that's per se good (like Mo/E), with a really random generator it would still be a good chance that you get stuff like Signet of Judgment (smiting prayers) + water magic + divine favor. and that would be one of the nicer combinations you could get. if you want to, we could try to develop a generating system (implementation will be anet's stuff) that would generate usable builds that are still random. - Y0_ich_halt 14:15, 20 June 2008 (UTC)
also, no illusioning, anet is never gonna even think about implementing something like this in the current guild wars. if they were interested in listening to user's suggestions that much, they would've balanced quite some stuff way better. - Y0_ich_halt 14:16, 20 June 2008 (UTC)
Yeah, sorry about the no thing. Anyway, I wouldn't think it would work with 3 attributes. :P I'd imagine either the game would pick two attributes for you, or maybe it would even be acceptable to just have it so you pick the attributes you want, along with adding the equipment bonuses you want. Then the game would pick 7 skills of the attribute you've got, and the elite would be picked from the highest you put your attributes. (if even, just pick one randomly)
Shamme it'll never be done, really, because I think it's got the potential to, besides GvG, be the only part of GW where it's not just buildwars. Although AB isn't too bad about buildwars either. Vael Victus Pancakes. 14:25, 20 June 2008 (UTC)
the prob is that guild wars is build wars afterall. that's what it's about. if you wanna play with skill only, go play some game like WoW where everyone can use the same skills depending on their level, so between two same class same level only skill decides. in guild wars, skill was supposed to be expressed through builds, but because everyone can just use the builds others use, that's a kinda flawed concept. - Y0_ich_halt 14:32, 20 June 2008 (UTC)
o.o Have you ever played WoW? If you want skill, you go play uhm, another genre of game. I was so dissatisfied by the lack of depth in PvP in WoW that I quit. That and ganking. Vael Victus Pancakes. 14:44, 20 June 2008 (UTC)
i didn't say WoW requires skill (absolute) (i did play it for three months), but between, say, two lv28 thieves it would be mostly skill deciding (relative). - Y0_ich_halt 14:46, 20 June 2008 (UTC)
WoW requires even less skill than even gw. The preceding awesome-sauce comment was added by Rawr. 16:31, 27 July 2008 (UTC)

And if you can't trust a corporation with a major stake in things, who can't you trust, amirite? --216.241.108.106 01:31, 18 October 2008 (UTC)
Well the way I see it, matrix, and thank you for the link... Warhammer said they have like 750k players. As long as an MMO has about 100k, they can rake in profits and have a bunch of people on one server having fun. See: EVE, which has like a concurrent 50k.
That being said, many people are dumb. Look back at WoW's first patch notes, and see how ridiculous some of those bugs and lack of content were. This is normal for an MMO. What killed AoC was the fact they rushed it and didn't have key elements ready. (among other things) So those WoW players who quit for it, meh. They have a new expansion coming out, and they were bitten by the bug.
That being said, I actually don't find WoW that much fun any more, and quit because I'm a PvPer at heart. I can't say no to this RvR, it just sounds so fun, and public quests too. On top of that, it just looks genuinely fun. I like starting new MMOs. So again, thanks for the link, but I think I might just have my next MMO chosen, and quite frankly, I don't think it'll be GW2. Vael Victus Pancakes. 02:20, 18 October 2008 (UTC)
Something like 35% of MMO players have below-normal intelligence. An additional 20% are definitively stupid; a further 25-35% (depending on the game) are decidedly dumbtarded. -- Armond WarbladeImage:User Armond sig image.png{{Bacon}} 04:39, 18 October 2008 (UTC)
Nah it's just that people expect warhammer to be on the same level of WoW, when WoW's had like what, 6 years of development or something? Not to mention the game racks in a rough $150 million (10 million subscribers at $15) a month so they've got dev teams of huge amounts. I'm perfectly fine with waiting 'till after Christmas. I realized yesterday I'd still have to actually buy warhammer which is $50 and then pay the subscription, so I'm hoping for a free trial at least first. I sure hope L4D is as good as they say it'll be... Vael Victus Pancakes. 13:28, 18 October 2008 (UTC)

Yeah but I'm pretty much done with GW. I lost interest when I got my titles which showed me I had more interest in GW2 than grinding this shit. And honestly it looks like I'm going to be maining Warhammer for quite some time when I get around to it. GW only did three things fundamentally wrong. 1: re-inventing the game multiple times realy doesn't work, hence GW2, which leads to 2: too many skills, once again, hence GW2, and 3: Lacking on some useful features. Point 3 doesnt make or break a game. GW over-all has very sound mechanics, and is remarkably well balanced compared to many other MMOs I've played *coughwowcough* Atleast Anet TRIES to balanace GW. WoW has a great feature-set, but it's mechanics are broken on the fundamental level. Any part of a game falls into one of 3 categories, mechanics, features, or UI. Most MMOs that have stayed afloat have a good UI, which is rather important, as are sound mechanics, which most MMOs phail at, and where GW shines the most. Too many hark back Everquest and use dated mechanics b/c that's all people know, and they are scared to change it, and think, "Hey, if it isn't broken, don't fix it, right?" WRONG! It's was broken when it was born, but it was still a breakthrough for the time. 5-10 years down the line, THINK OF SOMETHING NEW! Don't keep dragging the same old POS back from the grave just because it looks OK, and your too scared to try something different! Improving an MMO DOES NOT constitue adding tons of cool features. All the good features in the world don't mena a thing if your mechanics are so broken, the game is not enjoyable. GW at it's very birth was an experiment, an attempt at breakin the mold. Now, a few years later, after a revision or two, and some playing and figuring, Anet knows what it got wrong and is now working on the real deal. People say GW2 is going to be a WoW Clone, and I say WRONG! Sure, GW2 is going to pick up a feature or two that WoW had and was nice, and become mor epersistant (HELLO! WoW IS NOT the only fully persistant MMO) But GW2 mechanics are going to stay pretty much the same, as those WORK and are what make GW, GW and are the first to NOT be broken. Yes, GW has flaws, what game doesn't, but Anet is a smart bunch, and learns from their mistakes, and I'm confident GW2 will show this. — Wolf 04:56, 23 October 2008 (UTC)
I have to disagree with your points that GW is balanced compared to WoW and that ANet knows what they're doing. Force of habit. -- Armond WarbladeImage:User Armond sig image.png{{Bacon}} 14:00, 23 October 2008 (UTC)
wot? compared to WoW? I'll tell you I'd have to say it's genuinely unbalanced, but compared to WoW, I dunno... did I ever tell you about the time I was feared thrice? Fear once, okay, use my trinket. Fear again, okay, use wail of the undead or w/e. Then a third one comes and fears me off a fucking cliff. Like seriously, how is that fun? Does Blizzard even try to make balanced PvP? Vael Victus Pancakes. 14:40, 23 October 2008 (UTC)
Quite honestly no. WoW was designed for PvE - the devs honestly didn't expect the PvP would be wanted pretty much at all. PvP servers weren't expected to be populated by more than, like, a hundred people - take a look at Stranglethorn Vale. Also, ever heard of Berserker Rage? -- Armond WarbladeImage:User Armond sig image.png{{Bacon}} 14:47, 23 October 2008 (UTC)
i think armond got the point here. wow is a pve game, and wow pve is perfectly balanced compared to gw's fucked up pve skill and item shit. - Y0_ich_halt 15:03, 23 October 2008 (UTC)
No, not really, but I won't go into that right now. -- Armond WarbladeImage:User Armond sig image.png{{Bacon}} 15:06, 23 October 2008 (UTC)
WoW PvE is still broken, but not on the skill level, but in the BASIC WAY IT WORKS! WoW is 100% broken on the fundamental level. Yes, GW has gotten screwed up over time, but wtf do you think GW2 is for? No company ever gets it right the first time around. — Wolf 21:45, 23 October 2008 (UTC)

Slightly. I am disappointed in her. She keeps running from all her problems. From some stories she's told me of her life when I thought we were at least internet acquaintances, running has always been in her personality. Vael Victus Pancakes. 15:05, 5 March 2009 (UTC)
