ArenaNet talk:Guild Wars 2 suggestions/Guilds ruling Tyria
Something of the sort is being created in World PvP, it just wont be like controlling and gaining boons, but it will be a large scale battle with forces coming and going
Implementation question
Basically there are three options to implement an ownership-by-achievement system. Firstly, you actually get to own an area of the map. With hundreds of guilds taking a share, effectively that'd mean you get a few square feet. Secondly, only the few top guilds get to own an area (like in Factions), which leaves a lot of guilds in the rain. Thirdly, you gain land in your own instance of the world. As such every guild could eventually 'rule' the world, but of course it would be completely meaningless. The first of course is a great concept, but would also require a huge world even just to house the guild halls.
- A valid concern however here is my idea. World as we know would be parceled in small areas. Some you could own. Some you couldn't. Each area has an certain chance to be attacked each hour/day/week/month by a group of enemy NPC (better the parcel and its town(s) the more chance to be attacked). These NPC armies (like dragons, undeads etc) would vary in size. If the NPC manage to defeat your standing forces they would take control over it. Such hostile NPC areas is then up to grabs for other guilds, allowing no-land guilds to capture these territories as well as preventing dominations of giant guilds.
- Also no-land guild(s) can attack any territory and if they win they can take control over it. As for the guild halls I think those should be instanced somewhere in the Mist or placed on some Isles of the Guilds allowing any guild ability to own a guild hall without actual need to own land.
- Owning land would reflect on some PvE and PvP aspects but not all. For example they could war against each other or if they are really powerful against some of the NPC nations like Char or Humans. Guilds that want to do just PvP or some PvE wouldn't need to do it if they don't. Sithicus 17:40, 18 July 2008 (UTC)
