Would make mesmer teams completely shutdown another team. --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:65.189.138.205 (talk).

No it wouldn't. If the other team is using AoE, don't mob up. --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:72.64.9.242 (talk).
The problem isn't the mesmer class, it's that PvE rewards AoE damage and rarely gives situations where single-target shutdown is required. In PvP in 8v8, shutting down a key player can be essential for victory. Mesmers have weaknesses, like every other class, and those weaknesses must be exploited if you expect to counter mesmers. --8765 05:37, 21 September 2008 (UTC)
The question is whether it would be easier to rework mesmers to fit PvE or rework PvE to fit mesmers. I believe the former solution require less work. -- Gordon Ecker 07:02, 21 September 2008 (UTC)
The problem is that mesmers are OP 1v1 but against a group they fail worse than almost every other profession. Because they're OP 1v1 they don't get many buffs but they still suck in PvE. --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:72.64.9.242 (talk).

I think these changes will make Mesmers(specifically the domination line) worse for PvP. It's basically changing the few long hexes in the domination line into the rest of the 6 second hexes they have and it makes Empathy unpunishing for enemies not paying attention, like this Assassins could get a long chain off on a mesmer taking only 180 damage at most and still conitnue attacking after and even interupt your next casting. Backfire will be bad because anyone could wait out the hex duration. The examples may be good for PvE but in PvP it just means other players don't need to remove your hexes as they are going to end pretty quickly anyway and if anything the Necromancers curses line is something that has a lot more passive shutdown than the Domination line.(82.13.177.200 21:10, 8 October 2008 (UTC))
That's the point. Make them weaker 1 vs 1 but buff them against a mob. A "nearby" AoE backfire would do a great job of catching bad players off guard. --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:71.174.21.250 (talk).
The greatest thing about Mesmers, though, is their versitiliy. OK, Mesmers can't really do melee stuff (except IW) but few casters can. However, a Mesmer in PvE can easily go Fast Cast Ele (believe me, 'cos that's what I played all through Prophecies). However, I'll agree that "pure" mesmer builds do suffer from being more powerful in PvP and weaker in PvE. 86.26.88.229 17:22, 21 January 2009 (UTC)
