Smiting as Support

Monks are Leader & Support profession by nature, and any attempt in designing a offensive/defenisve support profession to deal direct damage is guaranteed to fail... forget Controlling/Nuking and Stiker/Spiker. As of current meta, Smiting seems to have two unfocused routes:

1) "Let Healers react and Protters prevent; The best protection comes in defeating and suppressing the enemy. No enemy means there is no threat for allies."
2) "When saving your allies, why should your enemies damage them or you? The whole point is to save your allies and severely punish foes who actively threatens them, not danger them more by dying." -- I vote for the latter

3) Alternately we could trash the entire smiting prayers line and forget about it as Izzy doesn't have enough time or effort to balance it. --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:72.71.215.11 (talk).
4) Add in condition effects and reduce the damage of the spells. Examples:
  • Spear of light; Change additional damage to Blind.
  • Retribution; PvP variant; deals a small amount of damage, causes a short amount of weakness.
  • Banish; Add in AoE burning if it hits a spirit or undead creature/minion.
  • Smite; change additional damage for cracked armor
  • Shield of Judgment; Add in a short weakness duration
  • Smite Condition; move a condition from an ally to foes nearby.
  • Holy Strike/Stonesoul Strike; remove KD effect, add in weakness or cripple.
  • Zealot's Fire; Causes burning.
  • Balthazar's Aura; Add in AoE burning effect if it hits a Spirit or undead creature/minion.
  • Signet of Rage; Causes Weakness and Cracked Armor if target isn't attacking, causes Crippled and Blind if target foe is attacking.

^Perhaps just a change of how smiting prayers works, from dealing damage to punishing people attacking, to giving conditions to "cripple" attackers in some way.--66.192.104.13 21:01, 16 January 2009 (UTC)
