Category talk:NPCs with multiple professions

There are dozens more enemies that belong in this category, but do we really need it? I can understand the NPCs with multiple elites category, that's at least interesting trivia and somewhat useful for capping, but does anyone need a list like this? Since the Peacekeepers etc. came along, this has hardly been a remarkable category. G R E E N E R 19:22, 30 August 2010 (UTC)

Deletion[edit]

I deleted this page because its deletion was uncontested. I do see there's a possible use for this category, but instead of manually adding it to pages it should be added to Template:NPC infobox if we decide to have a category for NPCs with multiple professions. 3 professions[edit]

When I saw a sparsely-populated category for NPCs with "multiple" professions, I thought it might be a list of those NPCs with more than two professions. I can only think of the Stone Summit Dreamer and Malfunctioning Golem off the top of my head, but I seem to recall there being a few more. Is there any way to search for the other few NPCs that share this characteristic besides going through every list of NPCs and checking each one manually? If we can gather together the NPCs and there are at least, say, three, would it be worth it to make a category for them? I know I personally would find it interesting/useful, though I don't know if my opinion is shared among the general wiki population. Ailina 06:03, 26 February 2013 (UTC)

I can generate the npcs via dpl, I'll post the final results in my sandbox for you. -Chieftain Alex 09:34, 26 February 2013 (UTC)
Thank you! Though I could have sworn there were more, looking through the list, it appears the only ones that have three professions at the same time are the Stone Summit Dreamer and Malfunctioning Golem, and the others are either one type of NPC that can have multiple skill bars (each with one or two professions, like the Peacekeepers) or several different NPCs with the same name that have different bars (like the Canthan Peasants). There is also the Graven Monolith, but I'm not sure whether they are considered to be in possession of three professions at once, or whether they shouldn't be counted since they only have access to one profession at a time. Sorry if this isn't the right place to be asking this, but if the dreamer and golem are truly the only two creatures in the game that have three professions at once, should I modify the note at the bottom of each to state that more specifically? (As opposed to the more vague notes like that they are "among the few creatures" to have three professions, which could lead to false assumptions that there are more). Stone Summit Engineer would be another if you include NPCs that have three professions at the same time based on what skill tomes they drop. --Silver Edge 08:12, 3 March 2013 (UTC)
I've added it to the NPC infobox - but I'm wondering, is this category meant for NPCs like Canthan Peasants (multiple primary professions) or does it also include Peacekeepers with multiple possible secondary professions.
@"I could have sworn there were more" - I suspect that I only searched for NPCs with three professions or more. (omitting NPCs with only 2 profs). The infobox change will highlight which NPCs have two or more professions. We can always revert the infobox change if we decide manual categorization would be better. -Chieftain Alex 14:12, 3 March 2013 (UTC)

@Falconeye's split suggestion - the current infobox doesn't discriminate between foes having primary or secondary professions, so your split would be quite difficult to achieve. (lot of effort + low reward = cba..) -Chieftain Alex 17:03, 4 March 2013 (UTC)

Just trying to be helpful. ^_^ Will that change after the wiki-update (that I keep reading about) is implemented? --Falconeye 23:34, 4 March 2013 (UTC)
Afaik, no. The update will give us SMW which is useful, but not for this. (infoboxes can't tell if you've programmed prof1/2 to be primaries or not) -Chieftain Alex 23:44, 4 March 2013 (UTC)
