Introduction[edit]

In guild wars 2 gameplay videos that I've watched via youtube and other sites, I've noticed that some skills seem like they should be avoided due to the way it makes your character perform a certain action. I wanted to change this and give skills a trade-off like giving up retreating(survivability) for damage or condition infliction.

I'm a necromancer, and a ranger second, but since Necromancers don't have any forced-movement via skills, I'll use a ranger as an example.

Examples[edit]

The skill Quick Shot makes you retreat backwards after firing the arrow. I'd like to make use of all my skills, but at the same time, I don't want to use a skill, retreat (unwillfully) then walk up to the enemy. Providing a slight trade-off/change to this skill that can be altered when out of combat would give more customization to how the character wants to play.

An example of an alteration for Quick Shot would be:

(current) Fire a quick shot and then retreat directly backwards
(alteration) Fire an arrow that moves at an incredible speed, giving an additional chance to inflict a critical hit
By giving an alteration like this, you trade off survivability for damage. Survivability as in, "you are being attacked by several melee enemies" Do you want to kill faster, or play it safe?

More examples:

(current) Hornet Sting. Stab your foe quickly and retreat Swiftly backwards
(alteration) Hornet Sting. Stab your foe. If this results in a critical hit, you inflict Bleeding upon the target
Survivability for damage
(c) Crippling Talon. Throw a dagger and Cripple your foe
(a) Crippling Talon. Slash the enemy with your dagger (in melee range) and Cripple your foe. If used on an enemy from behind, you [[1]] that foe
Ranged attack for melee but more powerful attack

Outcome[edit]

After these examples, I guess you guys got the gist of what I mean by customization. And again, you can alter the skills when out of combat. And putting these alterations eliminate future traits and having to waste a trait slot for a minor change.
