I like the idea - more customization is always good (as long as both/all options are balanced, of course). I can forsee a few problems, though, such as people changing all their skills to be all +damage and using utility stuns to burn down lots of health while the enemy is still stunned in PvP. I'd think that there shouldn't be patterns/shared customization options between skills: for example, all of your examples involved trading off survivability for damage (and vise versa). I would have each skill have 2-3 options that uniquely affect the different ways people use that skill, such as an alteration for the thief's Withdraw that shortens the rollback, and one that lengthens it. Alterations that alter damage directly have the chance of becoming like Stopping Power in FPS's: a basic damage boost that everyone needs to get in order to stay competitive. I think that things like applying burning/poison, etc. have possibilities for combos with traits and things, as as such are better. --Thunderduck 22:32 May 6 (UTC)

Like you said Sparky, the weapon IS the playstyle: longbow=playing it safe from a distance with direct damage, shortbow=more action/movement/utility. But mabye we like the movement and agility from a shortbow but particularly don't like the movement from quick shot. And Thunderduck, I think you're comparing this is CoD (via Stopping Power & FPS's) which I used to play and I understand your standing but where in MW2, you can give up stopping power for cold-blooded (bullet damage vs survivability) or stopping power for danger close (explosive damage vs bullet damage) or even stopping power for hardline (faster kills for higher kill streaks or slower kills for easier kill streaks for the same reward). Giving up survivability for damage works in this way because they are complete opposites (living longer or killing faster). No matter how you combine them, the trade-offs balance eachother. --Eclipse143 02:14, 29 May 2011 (UTC)
