In Guild Wars, the Tengu are one of the most human-like creatures that reside within Cantha. Here is the premise for Tengu returning to Guild Wars 2 as a playable race:
The new Emperor has hunted you and all other non-human civilizations of Cantha to near extinction, but you reside along the archipelagos in the now-unfrozen Jade Sea, forging a race of pirates and scavengers among the ruins of the Luxon Armada, many turning savage in their quest for vengeance of the humans who murdered, enslaved, and extinguished their race.
In the midst of Cantha, a race of more intelligent, powerful Tengu waits... These are the Silverwing Tengu, formerly the Angchu, they are descendants of Talon Silverwing, who was the clan leader for many generations, this is the most prominent race of Tengu, building an army amongst the mountains south of Kaineng City, and raiding settlements from time to time. This would be the group of Tengu that players would be "Born" into as Tengu characters.
This is where the players come in. The Canthan Emperor heard of your exploits and battles across the sea, and wants you to find the Silverwing Clan and eliminate them. Upon finding the Silverwing Clan, you learn of the atrocities committed by the Canthan Empire, and have a choice of siding with the Tengu or continuing on your mission to destroy the Silverwing. Later on in the campaign, there would be special "PvP Missions", where you would have to battle the people who chose differently from you, and win in the battles to succeed in the plotline.
