This wouldn't make sense for new players... or new races. What if the models for your GW1 characters don't exist in GW2? 122.105.104.94 13:48, 9 January 2010 (UTC)
Somehow I knew that someone would bring these points up:
Firstly, this wouldn't make sense for new players:
When you say "new players" I'm guesing your talking about players that started in Guild Wars 2 and have never played Guild Wars 1. As I understand it, the Hall of Monuments is for players to transfer stuff like titles from Guild Wars 1 to Guild Wars 2. So a players with no Guild Wars 1 characters would have nothing to inherit from them, thus the point is moot. For such a player the Hall of Monuments would probably just be an empty room.
Secondly, or new races:
Notice I said "kinship," which doesn't necessarily mean a blood relation. It could mean similaritary, such as a similar personality.
Thirdy, What if the models for your GW1 characters don't exist in GW2?:
I'm hoping that they keep the old models, or at least something similar to them, I know people that are hoping to make their Guild Wars 2 characters look like their Guild Wars 1 characters. Besides we have statues of ourselves placed in the Hall of Monuments whenever we place a new elite armor set there.

Your whole first point that new players would miss out, but hello The Hall of Monuments to make GW1 players like that didn't just go poof. The whole idea of The Hall of Monuments is basically If you played GW1 and put stuff in The Hall of Monuments: Here's a prize, if you didn't: tough luck.
Also with the second point, the actual suggestion said that your GW1 character can feel a connection somehow between them, since that connection is us, so it doesn't matter what race our GW2 character is.
Finally for your last point they would probably on use the character that you used the most and yes, they could just take one of the statues and animate it. - Giant Nuker 14:41, 16 January 2010 (UTC)
Finaly an idea thats good,i see this working perfectly.though some actions+armor and that may cause more time to make >_> --Neil2250 User Neil2250 sig icon5.jpg 11:31, 31 January 2010 (UTC)
Neil, I am disappointed. Even if you did spend all that time gathering armor and weapons and titles in GW1, do you really want to be that unfair to new players ? We are getting prizes, and I am all for that, but your whole arsenal from GW1? Luckily Anet already stated our prizes won't be really helpful in the game; probably just something like a mini or a special pet, something that can't be used to get money or be very powerful.
Also, to the maker of this idea, your "if you spent time doing that, good for you, if not, tough luck" attitude is exactly against the spirit of GW. User MadSkillz1o1 sig2.PNG MadSkillz1o1 20:13, 18 February 2010 (UTC)
I'm guessing your talking about what Giant Nuker posted, because I did not write that. My idea is about passing the torch from one generation of characters to another. Obviously we can't bring our old characters into this new game, but I thought it would be nice if we could encounter the ghost of our old characters as a nice (if literal) way of saying "even if we can't fight along side you, we are with you in spirit."--Copper Legray 01:22, 4 March 2010 (UTC)
I'm hoping that in fact the correlation isn't helpful to your character. Titles are fine to transfer, but a mini would be a terrible idea unless they couldn't be traded. Roflmaomgz 13:18, 18 March 2010 (UTC)
I never played GW, so this would be pretty useless to me. However, for new players you could just have some random things that someone left, I don't know. Another thing, you probably shouldn't get their armor, and if so, it doesn't give a boost or anything, just for RPing.
