Point taken : state effects and undiscernable conditions.[edit]

You may want to check the GW2 Wiki on effect indicators to see the different icons in the flesh. And I would remind the occasional readers that when you're in a team, in the upper right corner of your screen, the effect indicators are on the left side of each team member's health bar (in the same size as your own applied effects, those hovering above your health bubble).

Control indicators are simple white on grey square shapes, not much to say here, they are the easier spotted due to their shape and neutral color.

The Boons are orange and white (bright impression on an upward-looking shield), while the Conditions are red and black (dark impression on a downward-looking arrow) which actually put them further appart that what you may think with bad pixellation.

And while the boons are quite discernable, the conditions are not... among themselves : difficult to tell a burning from a bleeding or even a crippling condition. And here comes the other problem of the combat feedback, since each condition is single-handedly very spotable through game animations : visual effects are generally ok, but far too messy in team combats or larger... and you lose the information and go blind (pun intented) on the situation.

Moreover, a small part of the population is color blind, and can't completely discern greens from reds. Other classical visual impairements have seemingly been taken into account in the choices of those icons (symbol, background, outline, color combination). Though the other effects are currently using the colors of their home profession, which could lead to some confusion.

And about that matter, Auras and other state effects (like Distortion, Frenzy, Haste, Stealth and Stability) should also get some specific color treatment. They are boon-like but not impacted by character's attributes (Expertise noticeably). Most of them have yellow colors, or based upon their home professions... not sure what should be the best for them. -- User Leonim Sig.jpg Leonim [talk·contribs] 19:25, 10 April 2012 (UTC)
