Feedback talk:User/MarioDX/Meeting you GW1 character in GW2 (as an NPC of course)

The major problem with this idea and other similar ideas (like playing the same char in GW1 and GW2) is the ton of (unnecessary) work that it would require. GW2's system was revamped; they cannot just go copy-paste GW1 characters into GW2. Which means they would have to make all the bodies, faces and armors for all the GW1's professions again for GW2. And to that add the necessary software to display your GW1 chars in GW2 and to "translate" GW1's bodies/armors/hairstyles/faces to GW2's similar bodies/armors/hairstyles/faces, the UI, the lore, dialogues, voice-acting, animations... (I'm not even considering the fact that body types changed their proportions significantly between the two games, that the games have different professions, or that armor styles wouldn't fit the GW2 world/professions and would therefore be unusable by any other NPCs/players)

All that enormous amount of work would just generate 1 NPC for each player, and only for old GW1 players (and probably only for their human chars). It's an unthinkable amount of work that just a handful of people would see (and each player would only see a tiny, tiny fraction of all the work done) and that players won't even need or miss this option if it's not there. Knowing they aren't even adding the Hall of Monuments (the physical space, not the concept) or any HoM-related lore to GW2 (which would be much easier and definitely feasible), then I'm certain they wouldn't consider your suggestion not even by a micro-second. It would be cool, though, if it weren't for all the work it requires. --217.129.133.230 15:46, 3 November 2010 (UTC)

What might be an interesting (and optional) is to just create some lore for yourself in your Hall of Monuments and have it passed on to your new characters. Kind of like Neverwinter Nights (or many other advanced d&d games), when you create a small bio of your character. I don't know if there will be a "character/account specific area" like the HoM in GW2, but it kind of just adds a bit of the role playing element for those who care to fill it out. Even if it doesn't occur in game, I'm sure the hardcore RPer's will create some sort of lore for their characters anyways. FleshAndFaith 20:57, 3 November 2010 (UTC)
You could always make the player something profession-specific, like a Dream Rider, or a Dryder. -MaskeusUser Maskeus sig.jpeg 18:44, 7 November 2010 (UTC)
i think this is something interesting, maybe not done "in-game" by the obvious definition, but instead when creating characters. here is how I think it could work, the character creation would include a Ghostly Ally that sees your potential, obviously asking you the necessary questions to form your character how you want, name, race, profession, etc etc... now for those who linked their 2 account would get their chosen "account name" character appear, in simple "peasant" clothes, but profession specific body build. dialogue changing for something like "I've been watching you, and you have the potential to change the world" or "I once fought again great dangers(going on for things like "I am your past, and you are My future" (for humans) or "Many an enemy fell to the combined might of your ancestors and I"(for Charr, Asura, and Norn) or maybe "I aided Ventari in defense of his sanctuary against the White Mantle, assuring the growth of the Pale Tree"(for, obviously, the Sylvari) nothing that is to huge, but connects the new characters to the past, and i guess it being "your story" you might have a choice to disable the feature if you wanted, like a "Warm Welcome" or W/E, im sure you get by now....

and it would be totally nuts when you find out that your grand grand grand grandfather/mother is actually human and did it with a charr... and what's the outcome? a charr xD --Frozen Ice Prince 11:04, 3 April 2011 (UTC)

I don't think the idea of an NPC is particularly relevant as they would most certainly have died at some point in the 200 year span between the two games, unless a Necro managed to somehow become a Lich that is. That aside having a ghostly ally of sorts would certainly tie in nicely or at least some form of plaque (street urchin), monument (commoner) or shrine (nobility) in your home territory where applicable that hints at your characters history or lineage for those character names that are transfered.
