Feedback talk:User/Shayne Hawke/Survivor and LDoA

Personally, I'd like to see both titles eliminated from the game entirely, but this is one of the most sensible suggestions I've seen on the topic, plus being actual game feedback rather than just discussion. Legendary Defender of Ascalon is pretty much in poor taste as it seems more like rewarding an exploit, after all it gives prophecies characters an unfair advantage in Maxed Titles rank (there's no Legendary Defender of Shing Jea or Istan), nor is there a title for achieving 30,000 deaths which is practically the same concept. Giving players a customized token item for accomplishing something that the development team never expected would have been a much better move than a title. As for Survivor, it suffers from just about as many problems of players earning it through ineffort and borderline exploit tactics (farming, frequent 'zoning', having another player do all the work while they stay out of harm's way) plus the fact that it can be accidentally lost due to connection errors. Players should definitely be rewarded for hard work and creative solutions, though these titles existence potentially punish players for things outside their control, especially to those who never had a chance to pursue them (Factions/Nightfall characters for LDoA or characters from before the titles system). I disagree. The Commander title isn't available unless you have Nightfall or Eye of the North to compete in HB. Savior of Kurzicks/Luxons isn't available unless you have Factions. Why not have a Prophecies only title, too?
And you are missing the points of the titles completely. Being able to obtain level 20 in Pre-Searing Ascalon is a very big achievement, regardless of taking advantage of an eploit or not. And being able to obtain max Survivor title means you don't die at all. Enough said. You don't buy your way to Survivor title. Sure, it can be fixed so that people aren't obtaining it with no effort, but doing away with it isn't a good idea. --MushaUser Musha Sigc.pngTalk 03:20, 7 October 2009 (UTC)
For one thing, Legendary Defender of Ascalon is exclusive to even prophecies players at a certain point and death leveling isn't so much an effort as falling backwards into a reward through failure. Though it could bear testing, it might be possible to buy heroes on a PvP character without the campaigns, but seeing as how both Hero Battles and the Commander title are being eliminated (yes, I'm aware that it will exist, but will be permanently unpursuable), it makes little point to argue it anyway. Also, yes, there are some titles, even account-wide ones that require a campaign to go after (Kurzick/Luxon) however, as the player cannot be locked out of progressing them (especially by accidents and incidents outside of their control), they're actually far more tolerarable than the two titles in question.
As far as "missing the point of titles" (thanks for being insulting by the way), it's an achievement style system of player rewards based on what the designers felt was a difficult task at some point or another; some of which provide tangible in-game benefits, some which are perfectly reasonable rewards for completing a campaign with above par efforts, other notably difficult tasks such as exploring entire continents with a fine-toothed comb, and the rest of which are merely ePeen nonsense that should be eliminated. Beside the point, I've suggested a more practical replacement for these than the character deleting monstrosity that these two create in the first place, which is more appropriate to game balance due to taking away the waste of time, superiority complex inducing titles that these two are. But yes, there are people who have worked hard for Survivor, some of whom have reported at least minor psychological trauma (nightmares) from the highly stressful task that it is (so much for the games should be fun theory).
The major issues with these two titles is their exclusivity to effort brought about through perfectly reasonable choice (leaving a tutorial area as opposed to mindlessly grinding through failure) or the pursuit of fun combined with the possibility of being something other than a metagaming grind machine. I recall them mentioning how they were trying to avoid the mindless grind that other MMOs try so hard to convince their players is a good thing (like a ponzi scheme in gaming) yet they feel perfectly happy with the 180 degree turnabout to the theory that these two titles support. I also recall how death in the game wasn't supposed to come with permanent detriment to player efforts. Seryu 23:12, 7 October 2009 (UTC)
Agreed, some of us worked hard for our titles and i dont think ANET would like to take away what we worked so hard for. (Ixillius 16:30, 9 February 2010 (UTC))

Personally i believe that there should be a death count reset, because when i started playing GW there was no survivor title track, thus there are many other people who face this same problem. having an npc to reset your deaths and you can get another try, also lag deaths are common in the GW, so why should someone have to delete their character and make another one just to get one more shot that titles? This needs to be revisited...[edit]

...as one of the previous users mentioned, this gives Tyrians an unfair advantage after the Embark Reach update. They now have access to one more max title than their Canthan or Elonian counterparts, making it less balanced (at least from a KoaBD track perspective). A simple mechanism for locking one out after the other has been acquired would be good...if both were acquired at once, it would be up to the player to choose which s/he would like to be displayed.
