Been confused by this before[edit]

I think this is a good idea. I've been confused by this before. FloppyJoe 16:34, 8 November 2009 (UTC)

Thanks.   — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 19:56, 8 November 2009 (UTC)
Absolutely. Although we should avoid adjectives like "ordinary" or "lesser", because noone wants to wield a "lesser" sword or an "ordinary" water staff. It's in human nature that we want to be special and stand out (mostly) and get the best we can. Anet should get creative and make up good unique names. I definitely approve this idea. I don't think the adjective "lesser" is that bad. The majority won't like it (this includes me, since i also don't like the tiny "Lesser" weapon variants available in Eye of the North, such as the Lesser Dark Scimitar), but some also like having "humble" weapons rather than oversized ones nontheless, so there should be some space for these too. i But i agree with Madskillz: prefixes such as "Ordinary" should certainly be avoided. And it shouldn't be that hard to evade duplicate names either. (I also think that all duplicate names of items in GW1 could have been avoided, too) —ZerphatalkThe Improver 12:41, 24 February 2010 (UTC)

Tips for avoiding duplicate names[edit]

Using more detailed names by using adjectives or neologisms is one simple method to avoid duplicate names. Any exceptional signs of shape or material will often already provide a suiting word that could be used for that. If it belongs to anything specific such an item could be prefixed with that subject's name or attributes which suit to it. Examples with GW1 items:

<shape> <weapon> Lantern-Head Staff
<material> <weapon> Iron Fire Staff
<attribute> <name> Greasy Skale Fin
<location> <item> Swamp Skale Fin1

1Swamp Skale Fin are not to be confused with Bog Skale Fin, which brings me to the next point:
Using synonyms is also fool-proof way to avoid duplicate names. Take a look at Magic the Gathering for example. They're having about ten thousand cards with different names. If there is a name that suits to a certain card they made up they just reword it to something with essentially the same meaning. The flavor text of Erase (Not the Urza's Legacy One) is the perfect example for that.
I hope these proposals helped. I would have started a feedback myself, but the basic idea is the same. These are just other possible methods for execution, so i think putting it on this feedback's talk page should be the best solution. —ZerphatalkThe Improver 12:41, 24 February 2010 (UTC)
