The term patrol refers an NPC or mob of NPCs, usually hostile, which moves along a set path rather than wandering around within a small radius or standing still.
The affiliation of patrols may differ from one patrol to another on the same map, so sometimes patrols will fight each other without player intervention. Learning to aggro and separate a patrol from other mobs is a key tactic in making encounters with numerous hostile enemies easier and vital in surviving difficult areas of the game.
- Enemies on patrol will stop moving if there is no player within roughly a compass range and a half worth of distance of them, when arriving at their next point along their patrol route.
