A permanent pre-Searing character (or "perma-pre" for short) is a dedicated roleplaying character that remains in Ascalon (pre-Searing) (the tutorial area of the Prophecies campaign) permanently.
The four most common level ranges of perma-pre characters are: 1, 9, 19 and 20.
- Lvl 1 for the bank alts. Those who are serious about staying in pre-Searing Ascalon will often end up creating storage alts, due to the limitations of bag space and the lack of Xunlai Storage access.
- Lvl 9 for the low level farming alts, usually Elementalists or Monks. These are capable of farming any area south of the wall with ease and efficiency. Much like storage alts, they also provide extra bag space. They can't progress further because they stop gaining XP from mobs at this level.
- Lvl 19 for the high-end farming characters. The point is to reliably farm Charr in the Northlands for boss drops and purple items while retaining access to the Igneous Summoning Stone for faster runs.
- Lvl 20 for the traditional perma-pre endgoal of obtaining the title of Legendary Defender of Ascalon. Some choose to go even further and attempt chasing the survivor title.

Trivia[edit]
- Before the March 3, 2011 update, perma-pre characters did not have a way of adding titles to their Hall of Monuments Reward Calculator. The update added Kimmes The Historian to fix this.
