This sword actually looks like the sword Stephan wields, not a gladius.74.171.87.173

Actually thats a short sword, and I changed the article to reflect that.--Ryudo 05:21, 6 December 2007 (UTC)

I lied, the picture for this weapon is wrong, can someone get a new one?--Ryudo 05:22, 6 December 2007 (UTC)

Did it myself--Ryudo 06:24, 6 December 2007 (UTC)
I'm pretty sure nothing else is missing from this article, so I believe the stub tag can be removed. I won't remove it myself in case I'm mistaken.--Ryudo 18:12, 6 December 2007 (UTC)
How about its stats? =P --Curin Derwin 05:07, 29 April 2009 (UTC)
One from a Gift of the Traveler is gold, req. 9, 15-22 damage, an empty inscription slot, without a hilt or pommel upgrade. LicensedLuny 06:01, 5 May 2009 (UTC)

Rin blade?[edit]

I remember having a Rin Blade on my Warrior char, which looked just like this sword. Am i right?--Burning Freebies 19:56, 24 August 2009 (UTC)

Merin Trollsbane is a colletor that exchanges a long sword with same skin, check it out!

Trivia[edit]

I added the trivia based on the link[1], and the line "But George he shav'd the dragon's beard, And Askelon was his razor." Paddymew 14:35, 27 January 2010 (UTC)

Or perhaps he named his blade after the historical Askelon which Ascalon could be based on. --JonTheMon 14:47, 27 January 2010 (UTC)
I meant the fact that it's called an Ascalon "Razor", instead of, say, an "Ascalon Longsword". Both things at once seem a bit too much of a coincidence. Paddymew 18:50, 27 January 2010 (UTC)

Campaign[edit]

Shouldn't this be listed under Core, since it essentially is a core item?

Trivia[edit]

  1. "The name of the sword may be a reference to the poem "Saint George for England" by Johannes Grubb [2]."
  2. "The name of the sword might also be a reference to Durendal, the "Holy Razor" of Roland in the french epic, "The Song of Roland.""

I've removed both of the above potential references after scouring the web for confirmation:

  1. The first quote has some basis as source, with the phrase, "And Askelon was his razor" (describing the sword used to "shave" the dragon). However, that image goes back to Jeremiah 47:5-6, which refers to the sword of the lord, "Baldness has come upon Gaza; Ashkelon is cut off ..."
  2. Wikipedia's article on durendal makes no reference to "razor".
  3. "Razor Sword" brings up a Zelda's Razor.

I think (3) is more likely than (2) (given ANet's penchant for nods to other video games). But if we're going for obscure, it seems that the biblical reference is somewhat better (it seems more likely that more people have read Jeremiah than Johannes Grubb). – Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 19:03, 16 October 2011 (UTC)
