Necromancer[edit]

How in the world is Order of the Vampire a bar-compression? I move that it be removed. --JonTheMon 13:17, 5 September 2011 (UTC)

altered the text for OotV a bit, I'd suggest removal of Earthshaker tbh.. doesn't seem like compression to me. --File:User Chieftain Alex Chieftain Signature.pngChieftain Alex 15:15, 5 September 2011 (UTC)
Skills like Earth Shaker, Panic, and Order of the Vampire fullfills the mission requirements and reduces the need to fill slots with similar skills (and skills that support them). --Falconeye 19:36, 5 September 2011 (UTC)
So just b/c OotV is cheaper and stronger, it's automatically a compression of energy management and a heal-on-hit? --JonTheMon 01:35, 6 September 2011 (UTC)

Clean-up → recommend a split[edit]

I feel that this article is in sore need of clean-up. However, I'm at a loss because:

  1. We don't have a clear definition that allows us to add/remove specific combos.
  2. We haven't decided if the article is meant to include every useful compression or whether it's meant to be illustrative.

If left to me alone, I'd say that we shrink this article into 3-4 short paragraphs:

  • What is bar compression.
  • Why is it important to good builds.
  • Why is it important to good team builds.
  • Include an example or two to demonstrate the value.
  • Include a counter-example to show when compression is less important.

Then, we also create Bar compression/Examples that can be exhaustive. We use an entirely different format that looks closer to how we do skill lists, e.g. a table that shows skill → compressed skills → short rationale.

As it stands now, the article appears to too hard to parse to be useful to vets, journeymen, or newbies. – Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 20:55, 5 September 2011 (UTC)

I haven't seen anyone respond to this in a week. Therefore, unless there's a substantive objection, next Sunday/Monday, I will condense this article (per above) and move the vast details into a subpage. That way, this article should mostly stand the test of time (and make it easy for people to understand the value of B-compression) by separating the more transient/variable details. – Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 19:07, 12 September 2011 (UTC)
The power is yours! (aka, sounds fine) --JonTheMon 19:09, 12 September 2011 (UTC
Thanks. (I will still wait out the week, since several others have contributed a lot to this particular article.) – Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 19:18, 12 September 2011 (UTC)
(Le bump.) And I agree, this is not particularly informative and would be much better served with an actual explanation and then an all-inclusive sub page. Aqua (T|C) 16:54, 24 November 2011 (UTC)
If you have better alternative, go for it! Been wanting to complete this for a year, but also at a loss (for same reasons TEF mentioned); let me know how we can help. ^_^ The relevancy of bar compression has increased exponentially over the years, as evident via Anet's profession-updates and the infinite PvXwiki examples. --Falconeye 06:06, 6 December 2011 (UTC)
It's on my my list. (FYI Bar compression has always been relevant and an important component of good builds and teams, but it's only recently that the term itself has gained currency in discussions, i.e. people have always tried to fit as much goodness into a build as possible, they just didn't call it bar compression).Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 06:13, 6 December 2011 (UTC)

(Reset indent) I've split the article as agreed and moved the associated {{stub}} and {{cleanup}} tags to the example article. What we do with that page should be discussed on its talk. – Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 18:14, 6 December 2011 (UTC)

Honestly, I think the skills you've left kinda suck for examples. Iconic bar compression examples would be Primal Rage and Life Sheath. --JonTheMon 18:58, 6 December 2011 (UTC)
Agreed; I just picked the first two that I could edit in there quickly without thinking about it — I thought it was more important to finish the split than be more careful about the choice. By all means, update the examples with better ones. – Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 19:39, 6 December 2011 (UTC)
