Whats the advantage of this skill over Apply Poison?[edit]

It doesn't make sense to me, this skill seems inferior by far! Apply Poison lasts longer, isn't easily interrupted, can be used with any physical weapon, poison offers a greater health degeneration... the only thing that speaks for this skill is that it costs less energy, which I guess doesn't matter in the end, because of Apply Poisons longer duration... I think this skill needs a buff of some kind, like major! Oo LunarEffect 15:18, 22 October 2007 (UTC)

This has it's uses. Remember Bleeding is a hard condition to spread for a ranger. Dark Morphon 11:08, 28 October 2007 (UTC)
true, the difference is that this is bleeding we're talking about. using this skill and poison arrow you can spread the two conditions at once, spamming.Rhydeble 11:18, 28 October 2007 (UTC)
true, but I think apply poison/screaming shot with a decent shortbow works a lot better at spreading. Although theres a better recharge with poison arrow, but it would take up your elite.
Allowing Rangers too easily spread two conditions would kill the PvP meta. If this is going to get a buff; it'd be very difficult to implement without making rangers any more powerful then they already are. xP 71.245.167.36 05:41, 20 December 2007 (UTC)
I still don't get why its "easily interrupted" X_X Aljazya 06:35, 24 December 2007 (UTC)

Auron Bushi: Rangers to powerfull... wow your a spell castor arent you? all i wanna see with this skill is for it to be used with any phisical weapon. its limitations justify a xpansion to multiple weapon types. --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:70.2.0.9 .

Why not use this with Posion tip signit? It would spam conditions without taking an elite. With burning arrow, thats 3 conditions per hit.

awww man....[edit]

they had to go and make it a preparation T_T--User Raph Sig2.jpgRaph Talky 22:24, 14 February 2008 (UTC)

Uhm, so? What else should it be? Dark Morphon(contribs) 14:31, 15 February 2008 (UTC)
A glyph, duh. -Auron 14:32, 15 February 2008 (UTC)
They could as least change it to be not easily interrupted. IMO, now its just useless--User Raph Sig2.jpgRaph Talky 16:11, 24 February 2008 (UTC)
Yeah, and at 18 secs, 1 pip lower regen, easily interruptible. Ninjas In The Sky 16:14, 24 February 2008 (UTC)
Well, the thing is.. Most ranger skills that do bleeding are very conditional, 1. Glass Arrows Require foe to block. 2. Screaming Shot Requires foe to be within Ear Shot. 3. Hunter's Shot Requires for to be moving or knocked down. The thing with rangers, they're more of a poison. So if you combine Poison + Bleeding You get the same amount of pips in Burning. Thus making a ranger very powerful. Best usage with this skill is either Poison Arrow or Poison Tip Signet. Halogod35 12:43, 14 May 2008 (UTC)
Or Poison Tip Signet and Incendiary Arrows --Chan, 1:00 18 April 2009

Update[edit]

Definately more usable. Much easier to spam with poison arrow now. I wonder if the new joke will be Frenzy/Barbed arrows? Mat Cauthorn 23:26, 12 June 2008 (UTC)

dont know. i dont understand the -40 armor part, but its better tahn easily interrupted! gg on the updates Anet!--User Raph Sig.pngRaph Talky 01:02, 13 June 2008 (UTC)

It would be double dmg only if u have exactly 80 armor to begin with. Biz 09:11, 13 June 2008 (UTC)
It's double damage no matter how much basic armor you have. +8 armor ~ 10% less damage up to +40 armor 50% less damage. That's why shields give 16 (20%) and many armor boosting skills 24 which equals 30% damage reduction ;) 89.246.119.13 14:12, 13 June 2008 (UTC)

failure...such an incredible buff. And why? I don't get it :/. --Readem 21:18, 14 June 2008 (UTC)

What about a 161 armor tank ? (100armor+5axe+16shield+40dolyak) =) Biz 15:24, 15 June 2008 (UTC)
Armor doesn't stack over 25 I believe. --Readem 19:47, 21 June 2008 (UTC)
Only armor-enhancing skills stack to +25 (with the exception of single skills that go beyond that, of course.) Equipment stacks beyond +25, so, Biz's idea there would be correct, except while using Barbed arrows, the tank would have 121 armor, nullifying Dolyak's armor boost. rofl, i cant get why they just wont remove the negative part, apply poison is better in any way and can go max degen easily with more damage with BA. not to mention that RC sez nom nom nom to poison+bleedOni User talk:Oni 16:01, 17 June 2008 (UTC)

Err, right o.o
Anyhoo, I still find it awkward that this skill is still inferior to the alternative, and being kept so. The skills are nearly the same now, with 3 exceptions: Apply Poison costs 5 more energy (not counting Expertise, ofc), but delivers 1 more degen than Barbed Arrows. This would be a fine trade-off. But for some vague reason, Barbed Arrows has another downside to it, and even though it's only for 2 seconds on a ranged character (as opposed to Warriors with Healing Signet), it's still pretty damn awkward why this skill has 2 downsides. Besides, people will still prefer Apply because of that extra degen pip. It'd be more logical if Barbed had no downside, and Apply did. Unless Izzy fears that Barbed Arrows will synergize too well with Poison Arrow... which would be pretty damn dumb to think. 157.193.77.2 22:07, 20 June 2008 (UTC)
The drawback is so minor, it might as well not exist. This is cheaper, and much more powerful in a European build (that includes a dslash or cripslash). The only time that one pip of degeneration would make any difference (in the current metagame), would be in TA or on a split. Finally, compare barbed with MA. MA is an elite preparation, that does pretty much the same thing for less utility :/. --Readem 19:46, 21 June 2008 (UTC)
Reason for a downside activating it, maybe easy access to poison for a 7 degen? Other than that Bleeding has only 5 skills for PvP that activates it's other effects where only 3 are non-elite(Ulcerous Lungs looks like an Apply Poison skill).--ShadowFog 13:01, 13 March 2009 (UTC)
