Tip: kill Drogo Greatmane as you pass through Reed Bog so you don't have to return to do it and work your way through the area again. Might be construed as a bug, though. Clan Yumemiru 08:22, 8 April 2009 (UTC)

bug[edit]

Can anyone verify the bug posted on this page about Drogo not logging in the quest journal? ~Shard User Shard Sig Icon.png 03:10, 28 June 2009 (UTC)

Deleting Nightfall trivia[edit]

Apparently, it was officially confirmed back in 2007 by Emily Diehl that the dialogue was not at all related to the coming of Nightfall. User_talk:Emily_Diehl/Trivia_archive_2#Blood_And_Smoke_trivia. So I'm removing the trivia that states that, and it should not be put back in.

A Game of Thrones Reference?[edit]

In the novel "A Game of Thrones" (Also in teh HBO Series "Game of Thrones") there is a character named Kahl Drogo. He is a horse-lord of a people who believe that those with the longest hair command the greatest respect among the people, as those who are defeated in battle must cut their hair off. "Drogo Greatmane" appears to be a reference to this.

It's plausible, but a bit thin: AGoT/GoT aren't the first places I've seen referencing characters whose battle prowess is linked to their hair (e.g. the bible's Samson) ...and the words, Drogo and Greatmane have the sound/look of standard swords/fantasy fare. There's nothing in the quest dialogue to suggest that Drogo Greatmane never cuts his hair (or leads bands of Centaurs against the 7 Kingdoms across the sea), i.e. maybe he just uses a new conditioner or has better PR than his colleagues.
Unfortunately, even a just the facts, Ma'am approach would lead to a fairly long note: "Kahl Drogo is the Warlord from G. R. R. Martin's A Game of Thrones, who has never cut his hair (owing to his people's custom of letting it grow until defeated in battle)."Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 16:37, 25 July 2011 (UTC)
You're probably right. I just saw Drogo and that he was a Centaur and my brain put the two together. I'll admit that the "Long hair=Greatmane" thing was more of an afterthought anyway. I'm starting to lean more toward the new conditioner argument now.
I just found this reference from Emily Diehl: "...the writers...confirmed that there are no other intentional GRR Martin references in your first posting, and that Jora is not derived from Sir Jorah" (original source) → short story: it's not a reference except by accident. — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 06:28, 6 August 2011 (UTC)
TEF I think you read beyond what she said there. She said that none of the other things in Broodling's post about Elona are intentional references, it says nothing about the rest of the game except that "...there are definitely references to his work slipped into the game". -- User Kirbman sig.png Kirbman 17:29, 19 September 2011 (UTC)
Hmmn. I fear you may be correct.
Thankfully, my standard phrasing for trivia is to avoid assuming intent and note the similarities directly... so Drogo Greatmane has a trivia line. I don't see anything in Blood and Smoke (the quest) that appears connected (but I haven't finished the series — that fast I do not read). – Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 17:48, 19 September 2011 (UTC)
