As a mesmer,or mesmer secondary, pick up disruption and increase domination magic. He wont be able to recast life sheath at all that way and it makes the quest very easy.

As a mesmer primary or secondary, simply take conjure phantasm and max illusions for the time being. Keep it on him and he will surrender in no time.

All you have to do is stop attacking while he has the enchantment on. However, life degeneration spells work great and doesn't heal him while he's enchanted, so equip as many of them as you can.

The quest walkthrough needs to be seriously updated to reflect the new status of Life Sheath. As it stands, this quest is extremely difficult to complete as a melee class. You basically have to have several health degeneration type effects and just unequip your weapon as a caster, or VERY good timing to stop attacking when Life Sheath is up as a melee type. You can't just remove it, because the removal spells (Strip Enchantments, Expunge Enchantments, Shatter Enchantment) all have MUCH longer cooldowns than Life Sheath. Furthermore, the guy hits pretty hard so being able to heal yourself is a must if you want to survive long enough for your degeneration spells to wear him down to 50%. This quest is in dire need of a nerf.

Ok heres how i did it, i went as an A/Rt with unsuspecting strike,fox fangs, twisting fangs, and vengeful weapon. I used my attack chain once to get dw+degen and then used shadow refuge to keep myself alive. I didnt attack and spammed vengeful weapon and eventually i won. As an A/Rt I did something similar. Used only Shadow Refuge and Vengeful Weapon (5 SA & 7 RM) and just let the attacks do degen while healing. Not attacking is critical.--Tjdet 12:54, 3 August 2009 (UTC)

As A/Me u put all points into Illusion magic, throw Conjure Phantasm at the guy, and keep healing with Shadow Refugee. It's very easy then.

This quest is way to hard now. Anyone got a way to kill him with an A/E? - Xinlum

As an x/E you should unock a bunch of aoe spells... firestorm, bed of coals, tenai's heat, etc and cast them on him, he wont run out of the aoe fast eenough and you'll win... stupid Anet....

As an Assassin, just bring Shadow's Refuge as a self-heal, Unsuspecting Strike, Fox Fangs, and Twisting Fangs. Hit him with everything you've got, and if you've got your Dagger Mastery high enough, you'll take him down in one go. If you want to keep your DW/Bleeding on, cover it with Caltrops or Blinding Powder. If you're lucky, he'll cast Life Sheath halfway through Twisting Fangs, and you'll get your conditions back on. If you don't kill him in the first spike, heal up, wait, and try again. Auto-attacking does so little damage that it hardly heals him, anyway.

I tried that, it took his health down about 5%.

As assassin too..i took Unsuspecting Strike, Fox Fangs, and Twisting Fangs and heal Shadow Refuge or Death's Charge...but stilll couldnt kill him as he reach about 35% HP and he spamed his elite and blowed me...the theme is that the energie of the assassin spell for this quest aren't enough and Pe Wan easily despatch this proffesion

High spec Backfire would work also. Yes, it's unfortunate they haven't changed this quest after Life Sheath's buff. I came back later to this quest, and Ebon Vanguard Assassin Support takes out Brother Pe Wan easily even at Ebon Vanguard rank 0. --Morgana1 21:30, 11 July 2011 (UTC)

I just did this as an A/E level six - skill bar was Shadow's Refuge| Teinai's Wind | Expunge Enchantments (didn't use) | Shroud of Distress | Iron Palm (didn't use, but could possibly substitute for Wind in the rotation if you're not an ele) | Unsuspecting Strike | Fox Fangs | Twisting Fangs. Attributes were 6 Dagger Mastery and 2 Critical Strikes, didn't have any gear but what the beginner quests gave out. When you go in, put on refuge and shroud and hit him with an unsuspecting strike - this should get him to use his first life sheath, and will leave him with about 85% health or so. Keep autoattacking and healing as necessary with refuge/shroud until you get to 25 energy, then use unsuspecting -> fox -> twisting, then spam the everliving shit out of the Teinai's Wind button (Iron Palm should work, in theory, if you're not an elementalist). If you get it right, you should be able to delay the final sheath long enough for the degen to kill him.

I finally picked an AoE spam skill and cast it on him as the fight started. It kept his Life Sheath off very easily. As an Enchanter, it made the quest easily completed. Just a thought.
