Update ~ Name Change

You'll notice he's named Errol Hyl now... Any reason?

Étron means "excrement", "worthless junk" or "despitable asshole" in French, depending on context, but it is seldom used, and they could have just changed a letter in the relevant localizations, as with Sida. Whatever. Ni Di 13:45, 20 November 2009 (UTC)

"étron" means excrement, but I've never heard anyone use it, especially as an insult thrown to anyone... Probably something else. With small words of 5 letters you can find anything and everything anyway... Elephant 19:26, 20 November 2009 (UTC)

Errol Flynn and Howard Hill

Errol Flynn played Robin Hood in the 1930's movie, defining the role and helping to create the modern archetypal role of a ranger. Howard Hill, widely considered to be the greatest archer of the 20th century, did the trick archery for the movie. Considering he's an archery ranger, I think it's pretty clear that Errol Hyl is a portmanteau of the two names. Would you guys consider adding it?

Usually, I think this type of speculation doesn't meet our (relatively low) standard for trivia. However, for this one, I think the OP has made a good case for the combined reference. Any objections? — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 09:00, 11 June 2011 (UTC)

(Reset indent) This note was recently removed, with the stated reason as Huge stretch, this was named after a player, then changed due to its meaning in French.

I re-added this note for three reasons:

• Three contributors listed above support its inclusion and no one has discussed the reasons for removing it.
• The note itself does not claim that the portmanteau is the reason for the choice of names; it states the facts: (a) the name is a portmanteau of two actors appearing in The Adventures of Robin Hood and (b) the movie, the actor, and the stunt actor are all associated with Archery (and by implication, with Rangers).
• Etron was the name given by the henchbar contest winner, but, we don't know who renamed the NPC. In all likelihood, the new name has little to do with the original name and it's more likely than not that ANet did not consult with the contest winner.

I think, therefore, that this note meets the conditions for inclusion. I think we should keep it, unless or until there's strong opposition to doing so. — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 16:05, 20 June 2011 (UTC)
