Is this the universal name for it? It's called doorman in lutgardis, pretty much the same thing. Not sure if we should move or keep this one... -Auron 03:02, 25 September 2007 (UTC)

Don't know about Lutgardis but it's definitely the more commonly used term when people requests for help to open the northlands gate in pre-searing. -- ab.er.rant sig 03:10, 25 September 2007 (UTC)
I have never head this term... Gate runner or just simpaly "pay 50g to open gate" RT | Talk 22:48, 29 February 2008 (UTC)
I see it alot when I'm in pre, actually. --Mini Me talk 23:10, 29 February 2008 (UTC)
I can second ab.er on what he said, Gate Monkey is deffinately by far used more in Pre-Searing than any where else. FromStokoe 12:38, 14 August 2008 (UTC)
I can't really find anywhere else that it's been used.. -81.77.239.48 19:46, 16 August 2008 (UTC)
It started in presearing and it is a bit of a reference to a game.... if i recall a zelda game where a monkey opens a gate for you. also known as Gate Nazi, or sometimes abbreviated to LF GM 50g 87.194.137.198 19:48, 9 September 2008 (UTC)
ok someone reverted my edit as if it was vandalism but i have increasingly been seeing people refer to it as Gate Nazi. And last i heard there Nazi is not a race. 23:42, 6 October 2008 (UTC)
Given the kind of use this term refers to, i would catalogue "gate nazi" as a forced meme attempt. Unless it becomes massive enough to be a common term, there is no need to document it.
Groups of people or guilds usually pick personalized versions of terms to match their own... uhm... humor, but since the use is insolated to their groups, the new term hardly reaches common usage status.--Fighterdoken 23:49, 6 October 2008 (UTC)
I know the wiki usually doesn't store price information, but seeing as gate monkeys have almost invariably been 50g for at least 2 years (never really paid attention to it before then), is it worth noting in the article? --Gah_ 00:41, 17 July 2009 (UTC)
The price has been fairly consistent at ~50g, I don't think service prices are listed in the wiki, most likely having something to do with a policy of "not being involved," or some such. Otherwise, prices for LA and Droks runs would be listed as well. ...Though that might actually help, at some point, since chat wouldn't then be flooded with people arguing about how paying 2k for an LA run is/isn't a rip-off... - Vik 20:59, 20 October 2009 (UTC)
It's a reference to Monkeys Island where you used a monkey to open the gate for you so you could pass. --The preceding unsigned comment was added by 85.240.72.169 (talk) at 15:20, 12 October 2014‎ (UTC).

SoOSC[edit]

This term is also used in SoOSC, and maybe other things to describe the one perma that waits for the main group to get the key and then runs the level out 82.95.65.117 16:22, 25 January 2010 (UTC)

Not a Reference[edit]

I *really* doubt that this is a reference to Monkey Island. The term is *far* too generic for it to be an explicit reference. However, I've been disallowed from editing, so... yeh. 50.243.50.11 18:55, 26 May 2017 (UTC)

EDIT(sort of) logged in and change it myself. If we really think it's a reference, fine, but it seems unlikely to me. Newms34 (talk) 19:00, 26 May 2017 (UTC)
