Bias against art[edit]
I want to enter art, since costumes aren't my thing. But after seeing last year's winners I'm not so sure. A retarded little clay model that takes all of 5 minutes to make, and costumes on dogs place higher than a very well done piece of art (almost no drawn media takes a prize). The bias against the drawn is obvious. All the same, I'll enter anyway and feel shame and disappointment when I realize I should've just made some little candy-corn man with modeling clay.
- I feel the same way, mystery unsigned person - most past winners are either sculptures or costumes. Then again, that's all we see; the winners. Perhaps the art entered was actually rubbish, no way for us to tell. Future 08:56, 9 October 2009 (UTC)
Prices[edit]
Not that good prices this year, not saying there rubbish just saying there poor compared to the other years. ~
european age verfication...[edit]
How should I, as a 16 year old european, show Anet that my parents agrees that I'm entering the contest? can I send it from my own e-mail? If I did win, I want my name at the site, and a mini on my account... It would be really kind if someone could help me!^^Charocles 20:35, 22 October 2009 (UTC)
When will we know?[edit]
I've never entered a contest for GW before, but I did for this one. I want to know, what's the typical turn-around on these things? The webpage says the 30th, but in the past have contest winners actually been announced on time? Should we expect a few days of delay? The suspense is killing me! ;) 65.207.54.194 17:51, 29 October 2009 (UTC)
- Hope soon, I too am dying to see the hard work done MystiLefemEle 06:36, 30 October 2009 (UTC)
Winners[edit]
Wow, I am so disappointed with the winners, especially the grand prize which has nothing to do with Halloween - and I copy and paste directly from guildwars.com ~ "Entries will be judged on the basis of creativity, style, and the melding of Halloween into a Guild Wars theme." What happened to good old modeling, drawing and painting rather than costumes and computer-generated art. -- Skeletor, κύριος του νεκροῦ 01:19, 31 October 2009 (UTC)
- Jora is a costume. 76.103.242.232 01:23, 31 October 2009 (UTC)
- And her character/real name was Freyja, which is a norse goddess of war. The IRL Mad King's Guard was cool :D Paddymew 13:45, 31 October 2009 (UTC)
I Totaly agree, the Grand Price Winner was nothing of any Halloween, and about her name:copy paste also from guildwars.com "Note: All judging was done on a "blind judging" basis, where those involved did not know anything about the contestant, including name, location, gender, or age." Also those computer generated images its not fun anymore, i remember when it was just paper, or real things created. Like Koreena Anchalis - USA his work or Cole G. - USA Those where nice made. Bad choise of grand price winner, nice costume but just give her a "nice costume" reward, and not the grand price of Halloween. Mr-HaXx 17:17, 2 November 2009 (UTC)
Miniature Mad King's Guard[edit]
Just curious was the Miniature Mad King's Guard always listed as a prize for the Halloween contest this year? I do always look at the contests prizes and usually have been disappointed in the offering so never enter.. If it was a mini by chance I probably would have.. maybe I missed it somehow? but I do recall seeing the other prizes available with no mini attached.. well just wondering as its too late to get one now :( --O Frost O 01:34, 1 November 2009 (UTC)
- The mini was always listed. It's the only reason I bothered entering this year (and lost, of course, to something as creative as a 1 dollar ceramic turtle with some modeling clay and toothpicks on it, and some guy who got a tattoo who did not draw/create anything no less). So you must've overlooked it or not looked carefully enough at the prizes listed. And it probably isn't too late to get one - Anet may offer it as a prize again next year, or it may be offered in a miniature give-a-way like they did once before, or via a promo code. And, of course, you could always buy it for stacks of armbraces if you find a contest winner willing to sell.
Honorable Mentions[edit]
Why there are only 8 honorable mentions on the official gw hp, what happened? --The preceding unsigned comment was added by 81.221.131.28 (talk).
