Acquiring the Giant Tusks[edit]

Rute Map
I gathered them in The Shattered Ravines starting form the Lair of the Forgotten. You have to fight 3 Giants before you can get into Wyrm shape. In this map you can see a route getting you past at least 20 Giants.
To me it looks like collecting them in Hard Mode is easier beside you get better loot. At least I found them easier that way.
Note - I haven't found a single tusk form the Awakened Gray Giants as the quest indicates.

This is probably one of the worst "collector" quests in the game, so few Giants... The map provided by Gollomotors is the by far the best place to get these tusks. That being said, don't expect them to drop on one run. Improve your chances by solo running it.miXer 11:24, 4 June 2009 (UTC)

Requirements?[edit]

Are there any? Because the quest doesn't seem to be an option when I go to see him.--MxBadBoy 00:40, 6 February 2009 (UTC)

Section[edit]

The quest itself appears under The Desolation quests section in the quest log when accepted. Should this be changed on the wiki page? --82.42.138.114 14:57, 29 August 2009 (UTC)

Yes I agree it should. All the work for this quest is done in Desolation and you can't get it before then anyway. Progression-wise it is a Desolation quest. 65.118.124.124 20:59, 9 August 2011 (UTC)

Drop rate[edit]

I'm a bit doubtful about the claim of "low droprate" made in the Notes.

Although the following could have been a statistical anomaly, a short while ago my SoS rit killed the 3 Nomad/Sadistic Giants right by the entrance to Lair of the Forgotten fewer than a dozen times in NM to obtain 3 tusks, playing solo. (I wasn't really counting, but I estimate I fought them 9-10 times). Apart from gold coins, 6 items dropped for me: 2 Giant's Boots, 1 Aureate Aegis, and the 3 Giant Tusks. (A tusk dropped twice from a Sadistic Giant and once from a Nomad Giant.)

If the droprate of tusks really is low, then this must count as amazing luck. Somehow I doubt it though. My guess is that the droprate is the normal rate for junk drops, but we see so few tusks in the game simply because there are so few of these giants around. Morgaine 02:57, 17 February 2012 (UTC)

I did this quest on another character just now, and this time I got my first two tusks in the first 3 or 4 exits from Lair of the Forgotten, and the 3rd tusk on roughly the 20th exit. This time all 3 tusks dropped from Sadistic Giants, and other dropped items were Giant's Boots, Skull Spear, Blighted Rod, and Crimson Claw Scepter. I think it's clear that Giant Tusks are not at all rare. It only seem so because these foes are somewhat uncommon. Morgaine 22:04, 20 February 2012 (UTC)
I removed the reference to "low droprate" from the Notes, as it's easily proved to be wrong. Morgaine 06:19, 21 February 2012 (UTC)
As a counter-example, I vanquished and cartographed the entire Desolation, and also farmed the Jedeh the Mighty Zaishen Bounty for a while (killing all the Giants on the way to it), and in all that time I haven't got a single Giant Tusk drop. I only had one drop today, about 2 years after I've given up on this quest. -- kazerniel (talk | contribs) 20:54, 5 September 2023 (UTC)
