Talk:Protective Spirit

All right ANet, since you might actually look at this page since it is your official wiki, I present the fix you have been looking for forever to end the 55 once and for all: Change functionality to:

"For 5..19..23 seconds, target ally cannot lose more than 10% max Health due to damage from a single attack or skill. This Enchantment cannot reduce damage below 25."

This would no affect play beyond 55 and similar builds due to the fact that no one is going to have less than 250 health otherwise --Gimmethegepgun 22:57, 11 April 2007 (EDT)

Nope, they won't actually look at this page. If you want them to look at it, post it on a fan forum (GWO, TGH, Guru) - this is not a suggestion site. Also, they've specifically said that they don't want to destroy the 55 build - it's a very unique, cool little build =) MisterPepe talk 23:19, 11 April 2007 (EDT)
Unique my arse. Besides, if they weren't so set on ending farming with this build, why did they make Dying Nightmares? --Gimmethegepgun 23:59, 11 April 2007 (EDT)

I don't really like that limitation, I have something different in mind. Protective Spirit was supposed to be an anti-spike skill, not a long-term damage mitigation tool, and Protective Bond was the opposite, right? But the thing is, with a 20 second duration, it's doing much more than stopping just one spike, so why not change it to this? 5 energy, 1/4 cast, 2 recharge For 1...3(4) seconds, target ally cannot lose more than 10% max Health due to damage from a attack or skill. There! Fixed! What do you think of it?

Stop hating farmers. Why would they nerf 55's? They are not a problem or anything, they can't solo farm high end areas due to enchantment rape anyway.

Agreed, 55s were nerfed with loot scailing and less farmable areas, there isnt that much cash to make as a 55 anyways these days. If ANet wanted to nerf em they would've a while ago, probably with a spirit bond kind of nerf. --66.131.53.220 01:40, 10 November 2007 (UTC)

lies, with 1 hp i still take 1 damage which this on. 10% of 1 = 0.1 noobs.

To the above, I hope you're joking...damage is not rounded to decimal places - you would still take one damage - Thirteen Thirtysven 04/03/2008

The skill's prevention will increase to 50%. That is a nerf to the 55 build. This skill became useless. Normally a character would have about 400-500 hp. It'll take more than 200-250 of damage to make the skill effective. I don't think there are that much skills that can do that much damage, which means the update was to nerf 55 build. The update would also make protective spirit practically useless, because it costs 10 energy to cast and does not protect as much anymore (if at all). It would be better if the skill was increased to 25% of max health.

Ever heard of April Fools'? It's a joke update, there were no updates today, besides a minor one to fix some PvP armors. Calor Talk 01:15, 2 April 2008 (UTC)

LOL Anet![edit]

OMFG OMFG OMFG THEY REALLY NERFED 55????!?!?!

i'm confused... they changed it back or...?

oh lol it was a joke? sorry for no nick, i'm not logged on

PS Hero Usage[edit]

I had never observed how heroes would use Protective Spirit before the recent changes on Hero AI. Recently, however, I must say that they have been using it quite properly, casting on allies that are under heavy damage, rather than just spamming it. -- Lud 14:37, 25 August 2008 (UTC)

Icon[edit]

I have searched high and low for an icon of resolution 112x112 or greater of this, all to no avail. I've managed to find icons for every other skill in GW at that res, even Blood is Power which nobody else seems to be able to find. If anybody can get me a big version of this icon that isn't just a blown-up, clearly pixellated version of the tiny 64x64 icon, I would really appreciate it. Alternatively, if some of you have artistic talent and/or photoshoppan skills, making a new but similar version of the icon would be cool too, and I can credit you for it when I release the giant texmod with all the big versions of the skills, if ever I bother/get around to doing so (fat chance). --Jette User Jette awesome.png 03:53, 14 April 2009 (UTC)

This? A bit late though. I fail...nvm *sigh* Haruno MidoriUser HarunoMidori signature img.png 18:24, 15 November 2009 (UTC)

AoE[edit]

I say an AoE version of this skill would be nice. Like Aegis accept having the effects or similar effects to this skill. StimpsonJKat 07:52, 24 June 2009 (UTC)

Shelter says hi. --Jette User Jette awesome.png 08:00, 24 June 2009 (UTC)
I mean a monk spell/skill.. =P --StimpsonJKat 08:05, 24 June 2009 (UTC)
And Shelter = fail. an ele boss using Sandstorm or something in nightfall will just 1hit shelter and half your party every second. an AoE prot spirit would be nice there. --83.78.73.80 12:07, 1 October 2009 (UTC)
Actually, it'll one-hit shelter while your party lives. Also, PI sez hai. —Jette User Jette awesome.png 12:16, 1 October 2009 (UTC)

Swapping to low hp set[edit]

Swap to 50 hp armour, cast this, swap back to regular armour. Damage reduced to 5 or not? I would test myself but I don't know a good way to. If it works, this will probably break the game...

The game may break !!! T1Cybernetic User T1Cybernetic Glob of Ectoplasm.png 16:59, 7 November 2011 (UTC)
armor swapping is impractical most of the time and iirc you cant do it in pvp at all, but if you know you have prot spirit on your team you might make a defensive set with +armor instead of +hp, your health would go down when you switch to it because youd lose the +hp from your standard set 24.130.140.36 17:08, 7 November 2011 (UTC)

"... attack or spell"[edit]

So Signet of Sorrow can oneshot a 55hp monk? These descriptions are sometimes very confused, and this could be good to verify and mention in this article + Protective Bond article. --DANDY ^_^ -- 10:00, 4 August 2015 (UTC)

Concise description suggests any damage (I suspect this is the correct description). Historical data with 55hp monks farming groups with Jade Brotherhood Mesmers (who have unnatural signet) suggests this to be correct. -Chieftain Alex 23:00, 4 August 2015 (UTC)
