Talk:Repairing data archive

From Guild Wars Wiki

Ive also had that problem... it started off with my guild wars crashing at totally random times. no error message showed. game just shut down. when i restarted i had to repair archive. this could happen several times a week and it pissed me off. later i figured that the game was crashing cause my graphics card was overheating. since then i always play with an open case, guild wars never crashed for me again. and i never had to repair archive ever since (have to mention that my card is kinda old) ;) -ArcticWind User:ArcticWind 12:22, 13 January 2008 (UTC)

Same here! One time i was with my guild, then the game just crashed. between times of that day and last sunday, the repairing data archive came up and its been frustrating me. However, the last time the game crashed, which was Super Bowl Sunday, it said there was a problem with my graphics card, and i think its true because right before i need to repair the data archive, the game just freezes the image. I could still walk around and chat, but it would just have the last image that was on there. So right now i think im gonna get a new graphics card and hope for the best.. =\ TitanSacranus 12:48, 6 February 2008 (UTC)

This happens to me every time I close the client by clicking the X button without bothering to log out first -- Arciel 5 oct. 2008

i just find it annoying. even uninstalled gw and reinstalled, still getting it.--Justice 10:24, 22 November 2008 (UTC)

I've started getting it too, never had it happen in the past 2.5 years. I log off properly every time, so I dunno... Meh. 85.19.140.9 20:10, 29 June 2009 (UTC)

happened to me today but I think it was because I closed down guild wars then immediately put the computer on standby. If you have ever monitored a program in task manager, ect you will have noticed even when you close a program parts of it are still running in the background for a short while. This leads me to believe when it has happened to you guys or anyone for that matter, there was some error in shutting the application down properly and thereby possibly corrupted the dat file or something. So whenever possible, make sure you give it a sec or two to fully close. In the case of crashing, all I can say is either hunt down the reason or keep backup copies of your hard drive regularly and reformat every now and then. It reduces disk errors. mostly due to the fact windows is total crap for the most part. Nay the One and Only 03:15, 27 May 2009 (UTC)

I put my computer on standby (very) shortly after X-closing GW, and the next time I tried logging on to one of my characters, GW froze my computer. After rebooting it, GW did the "Repairing data archive" and closed. Afterwards, no problems whatsoever with logging in or anything else. My computer had also been on standby for quite a while, so it could also be part of the problem. Paddymew 17:53, 1 September 2009 (UTC)

Deframenting?[edit]

This happened for the first time in about 1 & 1/2 years just after having defragmented my hard drive and mistakenly canceled the defragmenting process halfway, just thought I'd point it out to others. French777 18:47, 19 November 2009 (UTC)

happened to me due to a loose SATA cable. — Skakid 06:00, 22 September 2010 (UTC)
