Template talk:NPC statistics
I don't mind making it non-expandable, but is there a way to keep the "colored bar" either with no text or having it default to "Armor ratings" if there's no level specified? Manifold 20:26, 28 March 2010 (UTC)
- To be honest, the new one looks horrible compared to the old one. Can't you just leave it the way it was, and remove the expandable table instead? Why was there a need to remove the expandable in the first place? ~Celestia 13:53, 30 March 2010 (UTC)
- i made it non-expandable since it was kind of annoying to expand it each time you needed to look at the armor ratings. it doesn't take up much space, so i didn't see a problem there. i removed the header as well because it was kind of unnecessary since it was doubled with the article header. —ZerphaThe Improver 14:14, 30 March 2010 (UTC)
Health Bar[edit]
I think we should add a health bar and maybe energy as well. Mainly health.----Xtreme 10:20, 14 May 2010 (UTC)
- Energy has always been hard to figure out, mainly b/c they have huge pools and extra regen. Health might be fine, but should it be standard, or only shown for those enemies that have health off the normal scale? --JonTheMon 12:16, 14 May 2010 (UTC)
Looks[edit]
This template dosen't look good. Needs to be modified if we are going to start adding things to it. I can help out----Xtreme 10:27, 14 May 2010 (UTC)
- Just what about it doesn't look good? Be more specific. --JonTheMon 12:16, 14 May 2010 (UTC)
Expanding[edit]
Based on the discussion here and the excellent work Manifold is doing here and here, I believe it's time for us to expand the scope of this template so it lists all variables about a monster: health, energy and armor ratings (which was originally the idea of this template, hence the generic name NPC statistics). Regarding some concerns:
- "Most enemies follow the same equation for health": true. But since that equation is a matter of level and some other variables, different enemies have different health values, and as such I think it would be productive to list the health of everyone, even if many monsters share values.
- "Enemies have way too much energy": not really true. There's an ancient quote of Isaiah on this wiki mentioning how the only difference is that monsters have an extra arrow of energy regeneration, which fits Manifold's research (he has concluded, for example, that most enemy warriors have 20 energy and 3 arrows of energy regeneration).
- "Skills cast by enemies cost no energy": the Underworld farming build with Sympathetic Visage relied on enemies losing all energy so they could not cast spells, which means the enemies need energy in order to use their own skills.
Most RPGs have a Bestiary, with basic information like health and armor rating. Finally (thanks mostly to the efforts of Manifold, who has been doing a godly-like amount of research) we can make one for the Guild Wars creatures, too. Erasculio 22:05, 18 May 2010 (UTC)
- I'm for expansion. How would we handle the naming of the armor ratings sections, though? Change all of them to "statistics"? What about adding damage-type-done-by-normal attack? Manifold 03:06, 19 May 2010 (UTC)
- I think start with the basics, Health and Engergy. Really that is the base of the game. All the extra...lvl, armour ect. can be added later with the research you have done. IMO the basic health and energy (mainly health) should be shown on each creature.----Xtreme 13:00, 21 May 2010 (UTC)
- I think Statistics would be a better name for the armor rating section; we would be free to expand it over time as much as we want without ever having to rename it again. The idea of adding damage type per normal attack is a good one, although I'm not sure all creatures have a fixed damage type (I have the feeling many NPCs have somewhat random mods on their weapons, and a few even have different weapons once in a while).
