In line with the armor cap research, I'm documenting my findings with an Armor of Salvation here.

Basic test setup[edit]

Equipment[edit]

  • 60 armor (plain elementalist armor without insignia or runes).
  • Hale Tormented Energy Storage Staff of Enchanting with a "Have Faith" inscription (i.e. no armor mods on my weapon).

Skills[edit]

Location and Skills used against me[edit]

Notes before testing[edit]

  • Cracked Armor breaks when using a skill that gives you +45 armor of more, it will stop affecting you (not subtracting 20 armor any more). In this test, this means that it is to be expected that Cracked Armor won't affect the test situation with Kinetic Armor (+52 Armor).
  • General calculations:
    • Add all your armor together, keeping in mind the 25 armor stacking cap of skills. Subtract 20 armor if affected by Cracked Armor. Then multiply by 0.75 (same as -25%) due to Armor Penetration.
    • The Armor rating article has a very clear table on damage calculation with all armor levels.
      • What's so ideal about this test situation is that Lightning Orb does a round 100 damage, so damage calculation is easy (Lightning Javelin does half, so it is also easy).
  • Armor of Salvation gives an additional -5 damage reduction. This is applied after armor effects.

Test results[edit]

Damage taken with certain armor bonuses with and without Armor of Salvation (AoS):[edit]

Armor bonus Orb Javelin Javelin (Cracked)
Base: 60 AoS AoS AoS
0 132 127 (132) 66 52 (57) 66 61 (66)
+10 132 127 (132) 57 45 (50) 66 61 (66)
+24 123 104 (109) 48 42 (47) 62 50 (55)
+43 97 69 (74) 37 32 (37) 48 32 (37)
+52 66 61 (66) 33 28 (33) 33 28 (33)
+10 +24 109 92 (97) 47 42 (47) 55 43 (48)
+10 +43 74 69 (74) 37 32 (37) 37 32 (37)
+24 +43 74 69 (74) 37 32 (37) 37 32 (37)
+24 +52 66 61 (66) 33 28 (33) 33 28 (33)
  • In brackets after the AoS damage number is the damage number +5 damage, because AoS grants -5 damage reduction, which is after armor calculation

Expected Armor vs Actual Armor[edit]

  • Expected Armor = EA, Actual Armor = AA.
  • Expected Armor is calculated by adding Base armor (60), AoS (+10, if applicable), armor bonuses (to a cap of 25 if applicable, such as at +10+24, this caps at 25).
  • Actual Armor is calculated by comparing damage taken (from above table, value between brackets for AoS damage) with the extended armor rating chart (very easy with Lightning Orb especially).
    • In some cases, damage taken can point to multiple armor rating possibilities, these are then both included.

+24 +52 84 84 92 84 84 84 92 84 84 84 92 84

Conclusions[edit]

  • The Armor of Salvation is included in the 25 armor cap.
  • Any combination within this cap that puts your bonus armor over +45 armor breaks Cracked Armor.
