Bow Comparison[edit]

Have you used the formula Damage calculation formula3.png using the starter values of the weapon type as the weapon damage? --JonTheMon 19:51, 2 March 2009 (UTC)

I had not seen that particular formula.  I was aware of the armor effect formula however and that helped determine the targets to be used.  The weaker the target, the more damage done and the less truncation changes the result.
Hmm.
  • When comparing two different weapons, the -60/40 exponent component cancels.
  • Projecting the Nevermore to level 1: (-8 * 5)/40 => -1.  2^-1 is 1/2
    It should have an effective damage range of 7.5-14.
  • The Ascalon long bow has a damage range of 7-10.  About 21% worse.
  • The bigger difference would be in the adds.
  • (7.5:14)+35%=>(10.125:18.9).  My rating:29.025
  • (7-10)+20%=>(8.4:12);  My rating:20.4
  • The Ascalon should be about 33% 30% worse than the Nevermore, and it's not according to the data.  It isn't even 21% worse.
The average damage increase per one attribute level increase should be 2^(5/40)=>2^0.125 or 9.05%
Conclusion
There is something odd about the Nevermore bow.
Thanks for the information Jon.      mtew 23:30, 2 March 2009 (UTC)
I think part of the problem of that calculation is the "effective damage range" of the nevermore bow. @attribute 1, I doubt it's 7.5-14, since, iirc, a starter bow has damage like 3-5 (don't quote me on that). Also, are you taking critical hits into account? --JonTheMon 23:58, 2 March 2009 (UTC)
The starter bow is 3-5 and has a +20% customization booster.  It should be roughly half as effective as the Ascalon long bow, and the data shows that it is.  The critical rate might make the difference, but that would mean the Nevermore doesn't critical anywhere as often as it should.  It still looks like the Nevermore, which has 'max weapon' stats, is coming up short for some reason.  The formula you supplied shows that any rating given at level 9 should be twice that of a level 1 rating.  The raw Nevermore is 15-28@9 so the formula, if accurate, says 7.5-14@1.  I'm don't know what is causing the problem; I am simply observing that the data shows an effect.  At this point, I don't really care to identify the source of the discrepancy because there is little I can do to fix it.  Finding the source of the problem falls into the 'it would be nice' to know category, not the 'that would be useful' catagory.      mtew 08:54, 3 March 2009 (UTC)
Well, there's another interesting fact that you may not know about weapons: they only do their listed damage at attribute 12. Take a candy cane weapon, go to the isle of the nameless and try it. It surprised me. --JonTheMon 14:00, 3 March 2009 (UTC)
Hmm.  I'm not sure that really makes sense.  The foe's armor would change things.  Also, that would make the stated level requirements meaningless.      mtew 17:49, 3 March 2009 (UTC)
I took my nevermore flatbow to the Isle of the nameless
Att level Values Average

Roughly a 3x jump.  That agrees closely with the test I just finished.      mtew 16:19, 26 March 2009 (UTC)
