I would be especially interested in your opinions on timing (approximately how long you think the race might take, given what you know about the game). -- Peej 14:25, 11 April 2008 (UTC)

Great Idea[edit]

I really like this idea, I think it will be one of the best community events. I have one slight problem however and that is that the event will take to long for some people to participate in? But great idea. - Skeletor Il 20:40, 13 April 2008 (UTC)

The nice thing about the Protector title is that it serves as proof that all of the missions and bonuses are complete, and of course the downside is that, since missions can be skipped, it's hard to prove anything shorter. Of course, for the truly hardcore gamers, I envisioned the same race, but in Hard Mode. ;)
Ideally, it will start on a Friday night and end sometime on Saturday, which I think would allow for the highest participation rate. The official start date and time won't be decided until at least a few people express their interest in actually running the race. -- Peej 00:02, 14 April 2008 (UTC)
I like the idea, but I dont think i could do an all nighter lol. User:JONO51

Call me Mr Silly but: 60%+25%+10% mean's you'll be actually making a profit off this. Usually for community events as well the Host of them pays for any Prizes...So...Yeah. Great Concept; Vile Carrying out

The remaining 5% will be distributed to volunteers that help out. It's a small guild. ;) -- Peej 17:46, 14 April 2008 (UTC)

How much would it be for? User:Kapphan

The entry fee is not set. Depending on the interest, it may be high, low, or eliminated altogether. -- Peej 15:20, 15 April 2008 (UTC)

Great idea![edit]

Yeah, sounds like a great idea. There are a few problems. One is mission runs. Someone could just pay someone to do a mission run (although there arent that many run-able missions in tyria, except Sanctum Cay). Another is time. It takes a long time to do such missions. This can also lead to connection problems. Some peoples connection can only last for about an hour or two (mine is like that), so people might take a few short breaks for a while. Good idea about the Protector Title, serving as proof that they didnt cheat. However, some people might just wait in the town with the title and claim to have done the event, so you will probably need a list of all entrants. But im sure you were aware of that. Well, good luck with this event, hope it works out well for you, and good luck to all entrants.

I was thinking, were you going to do an event like this for Canthan and Elona? However, as there is much grinding during Istan mission gaps, that would make it hard, as with the big creature level rise in Cantha, so Tyria seems to be the perfect place.

I heard Hard mode mentioned above. This would be hard, as people may already have the title, so could just cheat. So hard mode is totally out of the question. Normal mode is the easiest way. I will be sure to spread the word of this event on inc gamers and guru, and on blogs. --Burning Freebies 21:42, 15 April 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for your support! Again, for Normal or Hard Mode, if you were in pre-searing to start, there is no way you could've started the Protector/Guardian title on that character before the race began (Hard Mode would be a separate race, not a "part 2" to the first race).
As for mission runs, I expect that at least a few of the easier missions will be run, which will cut down on the time factor; however, since the bonus also needs to be completed, there are some missions (I'm thinking Riverside Province) where being run might actually slow you down, since it would (likely) be fastest to use all available firepower for getting the bonus. -- Peej 13:52, 16 April 2008 (UTC)

Yeah sorry. I just re-read my comment and realised I didnt make myself very clear. Sorry about that. Its just that someone might make a Pre-searing character to start the event, then delete the character and arrive in Droknars with a character with the title but with a slightly different name. The name might have 1 letter different, but it will look almost the same as the Pre-searing character name, so he will win the prize. So with such an event, you have to be really careful that stuff like this doesnt happen (however, you would sort of realise he ws cheating because he will arrive slightly earlier. Anyway, sounds like a great idea, other than the slight fault which can be easily fixed. Good luck!

PS-how would you pay the entry fee in Pre-Searing? --Burning Freebies 10:25, 17 April 2008 (UTC)
Pay it before you enter the race with a new character. --Non-registered user.

More discussion[edit]

I have been answering some questions about the event on this thread on the Guild Wars Guru forums. -- Peej 13:20, 16 April 2008 (UTC)

Join me[edit]

I have been thinking of doing a Guild Wars Olympics for a few days now. Would you like to run the Marathon? This event would be the perfect marathon for it. So, what do you think? --Burning Freebies 16:29, 26 May 2008 (UTC)

I got your reply. Thank for the help. If we relaunch the idea and cant get any help by the team entry date then we will have to cancel it. --Burning Freebies 11:12, 28 May 2008 (UTC)
