Steam Implementation
- → moved from User talk:Linsey Murdock
Hi Linsey, Regina mentioned about Steam impletmentation http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/User:Regina_Buenaobra/Journal#NCsoft_Website_Issues_-_24_April_2009 and i am wondering if there's any chance to merge my steam account with my gw account (or to add guild wars to steam, but not as a shortcut) without buying new account. --Titus andronicus 23:44, 27 April 2009 (UTC)
- It's not possible at this time, but you can still launch Guild Wars through Steam by "Add Non-Steam Product" on the Game List. This will let you talk to your Steam Friends while playing Guild Wars. DarkNecrid 00:11, 28 April 2009 (UTC)
- Steam overlays work in non-steam games? ~Shard 03:27, 28 April 2009 (UTC)
- It works for most non-steam games if you add it through the non-steam game method. The only exceptions are very old games. DarkNecrid 04:22, 28 April 2009 (UTC)
- What's that steam anyway? Everyone seems so hyped about it, but I've never heard of it. It's an American thing right? Just like you use Yahoo and we use Google? 145.94.74.23 07:45, 28 April 2009 (UTC)
- Uhm... No. Steam is an online shop. Only now, when you buy a game, you can download it directly to your computer instead of having to wait for a package to be shipped. See: Steam (content delivery). ~ Kurd 09:10, 28 April 2009 (UTC)
- Steam is Internet activation based DRM. --71.240.11.243 11:33, 28 April 2009 (UTC)
- Also, we use Google in the US; AFAIK it's the most popular one here too. --Star Weaver 12:55, 28 April 2009 (UTC)

I don't know a whole lot about Steam, so your questions about it should be directed at Regina. She might be able to track it down for you. - Linsey talk 22:55, 21 May 2009 (UTC)
- Ahem... To wrap up the current state of this affair: Guildwars currently does not have a Steam App-ID. NcSoft itself in its Customer Support section stated that there is no way/plans to fully integrate it. This is likely because Steam is designed around tracking and connecting players through individual/independent Servers while GuildWars is a Shard/World type server setup. IE: there obviously is no magic buttons that make you join your friends (assuming you have any) in whatever town or instanced area they're in. Infact the only unique thing Steam allows us to do in Guildwars is monitor people in the Steam Friends-List. And the only potential it has if it gained a Steam App ID over the current "Add non-steam game" option, is Steam automatically Launching it's overlay OVER Guildwars by using the Guildwars Icon on your desktop with the Commandline: "Steam.exe -applaunch XX0" instead of "GW.exe". However you can ALREADY DO SOMETHING LIKE THIS through the GW icon on your desktop by replacing its target with "C:\WINDOWS\explorer.exe steam://open/games" and then changing the Icon back to the GW.exe icon. This will then open the Steam Games browser automatically so that you always remember to launch GuildWars that way if you're in the habit of launching it from the Desktop Icon. -HTH, --ilr 20:16, 22 May 2009 (UTC)
- "IE: there obviously is no magic buttons that make you join your friends" <- That would be insanely epically awesome, though :D 218.214.126.215 02:41, 10 June 2009 (UTC)
- Right now there are no plans to add Steam achievements to GW. --Regina Buenaobra 00:08, 9 July 2009 (UTC)
- Heh, someone did their Homework... Kudos (IE: no one even mentioned Achievements tracked by Steam but the question probably would have come up eventually) --ilr 04:30, 9 July 2009 (UTC)

Comic-Con 09
Is Anet going to be there this year, and if they are, will they be giving out goodies like last time?--Mysterias Stranger 09:53, 10 July 2009 (UTC)
- This is best asked of Regina. --71.240.44.21 11:37, 10 July 2009 (UTC)
- I hope it's not a new mini... I'm sick of all the new exclusive minis trading for up to 55,000 ectos. But if it's an old rare one, like Zhed, then yay, that would be nice, we need a few more of them. Rose Of Kali 18:28, 10 July 2009 (UTC)
- Yeah they definetly need to reintro the rare ones. 55.000ecto is sick. And alot of players want them to fill their minipet HoM. Or just because they are cool:). Death Sligher 10:57, 11 July 2009 (UTC)
- Not to mention that most of the existing ones are dedicated at this point. Things like the Polar Bear or Ghostly are more or less ok, because despite extreme rarity, new ones will be generated in the game over time. With something like the Naga/Oni/etc. there is no new supply whatsoever, no matter how miniscule. Rose Of Kali 05:54, 12 July 2009 (UTC)
- Personally I think there should be an in-game way to get said minipets, although rare. Possibly making them obtainable via zaishen chest lucky drops, or even better as rewards for gold Zcoins. These coins are un-tradable so you'd have to do actual work yourself to get them, and should cost a very large amount of Zcoins... but anything to make these more obtainable. GW is supposedly a game that anyone could get anything, given enough time and effort... however there are extremely limited (rare) minipets, meaning that not everyone can have them, no matter how much work they put in.76.175.144.6
- I agree with 76, I'd like to see that but I highly doubt they'll do that tho. I collected minipets the first year but now I don't even try and get new ones, if I get b-day present i'll open it and display the minipet in HoM but otherwise... I just buy the cheap ones but I don't even bother with anything above 100-200k. Waste of time and gold. Qaletaqa Hania 21:59, 13 July 2009 (UTC)
- I held back from suggesting what IP said about Zchest, or HoH chest along with the Ghostly Hero, didn't think of coins, but now it's a suggestion anyway, so whatever. :/ I claim no rights to my suggestions here. Another option is rare dungeon or Fow/UW/Urgoz/Deep chest drops, a la polymock pieces, but with the chance more like that of a polar bear drop to keep them rare. I never liked the idea of "lost forever" type items in any game, and holiday hats are enough for this one, dedication of minis at the HoM made the problem even worse after the armbrace dupe bannings that deleted many of them permanently. - City of Heroes and Aion will be at SDCC, but Guild Wars will not be. GW was not at SDCC in 2008 either (apart from some members of our business team for meetings and such). We're sending Martin over to Cologne for Gamescom, and of course we'll be at PAX this year as well. :-) More info to come on those events later. We're currently working on planning and logistics for them. :-D --Regina Buenaobra
Guild Wars Novels localization
Hi, I'm wondering if the novels bridging Guild Wars and Guild Wars 2 are going to be translated in several languages and if so will all version be released with the same timeframe? Cornflakeboy 14:48, 24 July 2009 (UTC)
- That information isn't finalized yet, so I don't have any details for you. When we know and when we can give you that information, we will let you know. --Regina Buenaobra 17:02, 24 July 2009 (UTC)
