Talk Protection
Since this will apply to your userpage, what do you think about this Guild_Wars_Wiki_talk:Community_portal#Wiki_talk_pages_are_not_forums? I tend to agree with it for the most part. Denizen Zero 21:32, 23 August 2008 (UTC)
- I don't want to get all explainy about it, but I wholeheartedly disagree. Vael Victus 20:49, 24 August 2008 (UTC)
- I am not sure if it would mean a real change for Regina's talk page. She already does a good job maintaining it, and most users actually do a proper use of this talk page, so i really doubt any aditional moderation would be applied here at least.--Fighterdoken 20:53, 24 August 2008 (UTC)
- As far as the original idea goes, there would be no change to Regina's, Linsey's or Emily's page. There's no need to change anything here...As far as the section linked by DZ goes. Erasculio 23:54, 24 August 2008 (UTC)
- Of course they won't be changed, they actually check and maintain their pages :P 000.00.00.00 00:55, 25 August 2008 (UTC)
- That doesn't mean that it wouldn't be better if half the crap that gets posted here, wasn't. If it's not directed straight to the user whose talk page it is, best scenario would be if both the user and the wiki discouraged it or even prohibited it. Too many people people think this is an appropriate channel for everyday communication and that make no sense. A wiki is neither designed nor optimized for regular nonfocused communication between editors. Fortunately, Regina seems to understand this and only uses the wiki to communicate minimally, and then usually only in specific response to other user's comments. -- Inspired to ____ 02:00, 25 August 2008 (UTC)
- To quote Auron, "Only a few more pages have this problem. User talk:Regina Buenaobra, Talk:Guild Wars 2, and Talk:Ursan Blessing. Hell, ursan blessing even has a notice telling people not to discuss skill balance on that talk page, yet nobody listens. Anyway, I propose locking those pages down temporarily (protecting the page with edit=sysop) and educating posters that those talk pages are not forums."

- And, "Skill talk pages, however, get very little spam, and since they aren't used for anything in particular, I don't see any harm in leaving them unmoderated."
- Which leaves me with the impression that this will only be employed in extreme cases, which is fine by me. Denizen Zero 17:48, 25 August 2008 (UTC)
- I have been following this discussion in detail for a while, and while I agree that a wiki is not the best medium for discussion, it is what we have to work with. The reason why I try to do straightforward Q&A on my page is precisely because the wiki is very cumbersome for debate. The strength of a wiki format is documentation and reference, not discussion. Having said that, I am not opposed to discussion here, but sometimes it does get very hard to follow, and when it's heated, it can quite honestly be a mess. Since you all run the wiki, I am sure you can come up with the best solution to manage these very heated talk pages. Whether it's referring people to forums for discussion, or communtiy moderation of the talk pages. I know that you are all working with Isaiah to make his pages more managable so that he can actually answer questions, which is great. If you have any suggestions on how to improve my wiki talk page, I'm all ears. --Regina Buenaobra 00:31, 10 October 2008 (UTC)
- Regina, just so we know, is that part of the reply to these issues or are they a different thing? I'm not asking because I would be demanding answers now, but rather because if that's the entire reply, we would be continuing some discussions that were paused while we waited (and of course, if it isn't we're going to wait a bit more). - It's partly in response to the ArenaNet namespace issues, yes, but mainly my opinion that the wiki is cumbersome for certain uses (discussion). As it stands, the current solution you have decided upon seems to be working. There are still ongoing discussions on each of the questions you have asked regarding ArenaNet and how we use the namespace. --Regina Buenaobra 02:51, 22 October 2008 (UTC)
