Comments[edit]

I think the 10min per treasure assumption is incorrect. If the intent is to farm these quickly, then hopefully you have all the templates saved for you and your running hero buddies. Equipment switching should be minimal since these runs are fairly easy. The run itself shouldn't take more than 5 minutes: most chests are near an outpost, and you can easily blow past any foes. I haven't done some timed run-through myself, but I can't imagine it taking more than 30min for all treasures. Regardless, this is a once-a-month deal, so it can be a good way to breaking the FoW-farming monotony. --8765 22:00, 1 May 2011 (UTC)

First, thank you for posting; in revisiting the effect that 5 min/treasure would have on the numbers, I realized a had labeled the columns incorrectly (short story: lots of changes to how I modeled and how I presented the data; I didn't keep the headers up-to-date with the formulas). Bad labels led to wrong conclusions, so I've updated that.
However, I haven't changed the per-treasure estimate of 10 minutes. Obviously, any particular treasure won't take that long. The 10 minutes tries to factor in the overhead: waiting for your friends, zoning, mapping out/resigning, kitting/putting builds on heroes, and some fighting. I haven't timed it recently, but last time with two friends who are mostly efficient, it took us 90+ minutes for all 12 treasures...and they knew exactly where to go (i.e. I had trouble keeping up with them).
And the main idea of this model was to get an order-of-magnitude estimate; whether a full run takes 120 minutes or 60 doesn't change that comparison. With my bad data (previous edit), cutting off even 70% of the time and factoring in 1 gem/run...it still wasn't competitive with FoW (which is a relatively inefficient farm). Even with the new numbers, the difference is 10k/hour vs 20k/hour, which can be earned by salvaging Golem Runestones for granite.
Shorter story: it's not a bad farm, but, as you suggest, it's main value is relieving the monotony.  — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 22:55, 1 May 2011 (UTC)
Yeah I usually do it for fun. Racing to treasure with a guildie is fun :). User Judas Sig.pngudas 16:54, 2 July 2011 (UTC)
