Feedback:User/Sixshot/Expanding on elemental swords or weapons

Swords seem to receive a lot of attention and love when it comes to uniquely designed weapons. Examples of this are the Fellblade, the Obsidian Edge, the Fiery Dragon Sword, the Fiery Gladius, and the Elemental Sword. However, one thing that weapons lack these days is stylized designs. There are plenty of designs for swords. Yet most do not bring out the 'wow' reaction in some people. The Fiery and Icy Dragon Sword were unique in that their type of damage is fixed. Yet there is nothing else other than the Dragon Sword or the Gladius in the sword category that can deal damage of a different type, and so they are lacking in some respect.

As Guild Wars' Elementalist profession is composed of four basic type of elements (fire, water, air, and earth), some weapons deal damage of a different type (dark, holy, chaos). Assuming that Guild Wars 2 will employ the same damage types based on the aforementioned "elements," I propose six uniquely designed swords that are both animated and stylized. These six swords will deal damage in one of these type of elements: fire, earth, water, air, dark, and holy. Chaos is intentionally left out as there does not seem to be any element that can counter this type. It is also seemingly a damage type that is reserved for a Mesmer wand or staff.

Each "elemental" sword will be uniquely named, have its own design, and be animated in its own way. Nothing should be reused unless such asset can be reused elsewhere as part of the game's environment or world. However, all designs should be as unique and stylized as possible to present the players something to gaze and be amazed at. As these weapons are unique in their own way, I do not wish for these weapons to be classified or categorized as a Unique Weapon (aka, a green). Instead, I wish for these weapons to be classified as "rare" (aka gold) so that players can customize the weapon with an upgrade component of their choosing. Another aspect of the weapon is that I want them to be generally available. Some exotic weapons can only be found in certain areas yet some can only be found as a drop from certain monster class. Instead of limiting where they can be available, I wish for these weapons be available anywhere that a max-damage weapon can be found in. Below are proposed names, all of which are tentative and subject to change/modification should a better idea or suggest come along to replace it.

  • The Diamond Cutter (ebon/earth damage)
  • The Fire Sword or The Fire Blade (fire damage; tentative name)
  • The Ice Edge (ice/water/cold damage)
  • The Thunderbolt (air/lightning damage)
  • The Holy Crusader (light/holy damage; tentative name)
  • The Cursed Weapon (dark damage; tentative name)

Each section below will verbally describe how the sword may appear from top to bottom. Hopefully I can compile up concept art and sketches for each weapon so that the design team can visualize better how I want these swords to be designed. Despite that I am proposing this idea mainly for the sword weaponry, ideas from this suggestion page can be applied to other weapon categories such as axes, hammers, or whatever other kind of weapon that may exist in the GW2 universe. Until I have actual concept arts and designs put on file, a verbal description will suffice until I update this page with links to the images.

The Diamond Cutter[edit]

The Diamond Cutter is aptly name for what diamonds are -- rocks. As rocks are of the earth, it makes sense to name a sword on this basis and idea. The blade will be mostly translucent and have various faces that "glitter" like Guild Wars' Amethyst Aegis. The handguard/hilt is to be

shaped like a diamond to further represent the shape and name.

The Fire Sword or The Fire Blade[edit]

No series of sword is complete without a fire type. So a Fire Sword/Blade is included to ensure people have something to burn with. The handguard/hilt is to be shape like a fire, with the blade similarly designed but in a much more subtle way. Animation for this weapon will have fire effect that surrounds the blade, flowing outward from the handguard. A concept art/design will be provided when finalized and visualized.

The Ice Edge[edit]

The Ice Edge will have its blade colored completely white and should be the longest in terms of length out of the proposed six. The hilt/hanguard is to be shaped almost like a star, as a snowflake shape would be overly complicated. More details later once more thought is put into this.

The Thunderbolt[edit]

Unlike Guild Wars' Storm Bow which is animated from top to bottom and its "bolt" wrapping around the weapon, The Thunderbolt will be different in its own way. The handguard/hilt is obviously to be shaped like a lighting bolt. The blade will have inspirations taken from the Forked Sword and Deldrimor Sword. I need more time to thoroughly conjure up a better design that will suit the sword's blade design. Animation will be electrical sparks or bolts that crackle around the blade at random. Idea inspiration for its animation stems from "Dragon Ball Z," a Japanese animation series.

The Holy Crusader or The Crusader[edit]

Name is subject to change, pending ideas and suggestion on better naming convention to suit this weapon. This weapon will be one of the more simpler designs where the blade will be a simple straight edge with a white glow surrounding it. I have no idea for how the handguard/hilt will be designed. Here I am open up to suggestion.

The Cursed Weapon[edit]

Name is subject to change, pending ideas and suggestion on better naming convention to suit this weapon. The original concept idea for this weapon is to have its blade colored blood red with dripping blood. But knowing how the game is to be played by many players, I have opted for a different way of how the sword is designed. An idea is that the sword will have tiny carvings or inscriptions on the blade. But that may not be conceivable, Instead, a sword that has a very rough edge can be used in place. The sword is to be colored dark purple. Its animation will have very dark colored "blobs" that slides around the blade. A second idea to this is having similar color but be particles that flows around the blade instead. A concept art/design is needed to better visualize this design.

As mentioned, all of these are concepts. Hopefully I will be able to compile a series of concept artworks for these weapons that can give others a better idea on how these weapons may appear.
