Lore-wise, anything can happen if it is written well. I love that aspect about games that allow things to change and evolve (so long as it is realistically explained or given enough time). If overnight, a complete enemy becomes an ally, I cannot suspend my disbelief and it just sits wrong. I think ArenaNet, with their great art and design team, could easily make any 4-legged humanoid a capable class. Some of the Charr art looked like they were going to have 4-arms! Plus, I view GW2 as a separate entity to GW1. So they can loosely retcon whatever they need and I'll still be happy. I'd love for the name Mesmer to be changed to something... more masculine sounding. Wazwolf 09:06, 19 August 2011 (UTC)

More races would be nice, and I definitely want to get back to Elona. I'm also glad that the undead are now nice and refreshing. ;) Kormon Balser 15:38, 19 August 2011 (UTC)
Ironic, how decayed corpses can be "refreshing." ;D And indeed, they can pretty much pull anything off if they put their mind to it. Derikvyreflame 15:52, 19 August 2011 (UTC)
I think the suggestion of Tengu for Cantha makes perfect sense as does the Centaur for Elona. I don't think armor and hitboxes on Centaur models should be a problem. They managed it for Zhed Shadowhoof in GW1, I'm sure they could pull it off for GW2.
The Undead, though, are a bit problematic. Don't get me wrong; I think it's a creative suggestion. But it has potential pitfalls beyond the ones mentioned in the OP's original suggestion.
It's easy enough to explain why one of the bad guys is now a playable race. Palawa Joka is threatened (or at least his domain is, if not he, personally) by the presence of the Elder Dagons just like everybody else. Furthermore, in GW1 he demonstrated a willingness to cooperate against a mutual threat. So the Undead being playable for this reason would make sense.
Where I see a potential problem is this; the Undead are not a "race" so much as a "classification" or "state of being". They are not homogenous; you can have Human Undead, Centaur Undead, Tengu Undead, etc., etc. One way around this would be to pick your starting race from the current crop (plus any new ones that may be added with expansions) and then choose whether to be a living version of that race or an Undead version of that race.
But to make it truly feel like a unique "race", there would have to be something to set the Undead characters apart from the living beyond just superficial appearance. This may prove quite difficult if simultaneously trying to maintain balance with the other playable races. For example, I could envision an Undead having no downed state; they are, afterall, Undead. They just keep fighting, feeling no pain, until physically reduced to dust and unable to fight any longer. But that would be unbalanced compared to all the other races that do go into a downed state. The balancer may be they will take double holy damage like any other Undead; but is that truly a balance to not having a downed state? This is just one example; I'm sure others can think of more.
Regardless, it's a creative idea. If we're going to go that route, I'd like to see the "evil" races of Naga and/or Krait become playable races, as well. Guild Wars 3 perhaps 23:14, 19 August 2011 (UTC)
Yes, those are some problems with the undead as a race. It'd seem like a better route, in this case, for A-Net to go the route of Palawa Joko, yet again, aiding the player in defeating the Dragons, but having a subplot where you end up fighting against him as well. Thank you for your input. ^^Derikvyreflame 23:44, 19 August 2011 (UTC)
I'd love to see Palawa Joko come back again in an expansion. He was one of the most interesting characters in the whole series, IMHO. Guild Wars 3 perhaps 00:10, 20 August 2011 (UTC)
Definently. It seems to point to Joko being at large in Elona in GW2, so it seems like we'll be getting quite the story with him. Can't wait ^^ But, first things first... Tyriaaaaa.
Paybe, because of Tyria and Elona being connected by land, they will do Elona before Cantha? A-net isn't quite bound by the same order they had in OGW Derikvyreflame 00:37, 20 August 2011 (UTC)
Perhaps a new race will be created, similar to what they did with the Sylvari. Yes, I think the Tengu will be a future playable option. It's a good, solid race, so I think that's a good idea. In terms of cantha, two races I would LOVE to see as playable are the Wardens and the Naga. In Guild Wars 1, the Wardens were enemies because they were corrupted by Shiro. However, we don't know what they would be like free of corruption. Since the Kurzicks have been overtaken by Cantha's Dragon Empire in Guild Wars 2, perhaps the Wardens could have a story of how they were driven far to the south, to escape the Empire's expansion. For a race from the old Luxon territory, the Naga would be a fun choice. If you read the lore from Guild Wars 1, they are clearly an intellegent race, but due to Shiro they had a falling out with humanity and have been enemies ever since. So they, too, could be a race at odds with the Dragon Empire, but perhaps similar to the Charr, have been forced to make alliances due to the greater danger the Dragons pose. Hmmm, Wardens do sound like an awesome addition, HOWEVER they might be too close to the Sylvari. Although they are completely different races, they may share too many similarities for wardens to be introduced. Also, because Wardens have, as far as we've seen, been confined to Kurzick territory, we would need a Luxon equivelant.
However, along the lines of more than one race, and the creation of a new race (like the sylvari), I think a nice addition, either to Cantha or Elona, would be a spirit-esque race that was woven from the mists. This was a success with Razah, atleast in my opinion, and would fit in nicely to the racial roster.~ Derikvyreflame 02:25, 20 August 2011 (UTC)
True, that would be a problem with the Wardens as a race. I suspect Sylvari customization options will allow a very Warden looking Sylvari. In that case, I'll stick by my hopes for the Naga. Weindrasi 02:34, 20 August 2011 (UTC)Weindrasi
Hmmm, Naga would be a nice addition. Side note, perhaps Krait and Naga are cousins, or even the same base species. Derikvyreflame 03:19, 20 August 2011 (UTC)
I believe I read in an interview that the Krait and Naga were unrealated.--User Necro Shea mo signature.jpg Necro Shea Mo 05:53, 22 August 2011 (UTC)
