Fun idea. I like itWeindrasi 07:08, 18 August 2011 (UTC)Weindrasi

I agree! When done right, not too silly, holidays add to the game experience. I won't mention that other game... but they do holidays well, and bad. Some are just annoyingly ridiculous. Others are great. I'd be happy with a middle ground. Wazwolf 17:30, 18 August 2011 (UTC)Wazwolf

Some suggested Holidays:

Sylvari

  1. The Awakening of the First Born
  2. The planting of the seed that grew into the Pale Tree
  3. Ronan's and Ventari's dates of passing
  4. Ventari's scribing of the Ventari Tablet and placement at the base of the Pale Tree
  5. Founding of the Nightmare Court (not a holiday for celebration but rather for sober reflection, rejection of the nightmare within the Dream, and renewing one's determination to remain on the path set forth by the Pale Tree. Have it happen around Halloween.)
  6. Summer (Aestival) and Winter (Hibernal) Solstice
  7. Fall (Autumnal) and Spring (Vernal) Equinox
  8. Each of the Solstice and Equinox celebrations could also be tied to the time of a Sylvari's Awakening. For example, the Spring Equinox Celebration will have even greater significance to a Dawn-Awakened Sylvari than other Sylvari.
Can really go to town on this one with visuals. A few images popping into mind:
- Dawn-Awakened Sylvari in ranks facing the rising Sun on the Vernal Equinox, bursting out in flowers and new fronds and leaves as the first rays of dawn touch their skin.
- A ring of Day-Awakened Sylvari hand-in-hand greeting the noon Sun on the Aestival Solstice. Rays of sunburts spreading between them and coalescing in the center into one giant burst skyward.
- A gathering of Dusk-Awakened Sylvari bearing witness to the setting of the Sun on the Autumnal Equinox. Sky burning orange, red, magenta, then deep violet as the Sun sinks from view. Stars just beginning to come out in the gathering dusk. Collecting all of their fallen leaves and fronds in the center of a clearing to light a giant bonfire in celebration of the passing of the Equinox.
- Night-Awakened Sylvari in a grove, bathed in moonlight on the Hibernal Solstice. Phosphorescent plants and giant fungi casting a pale blue-green glow over the gathering as the Sylvari bloom with a single fragile blossom that never sees the sun (like some plants - including some very beautiful orchids, if I recall correctly - that only flower at night). The delicate crystalline patterns of a Winter frost spreading across their limbs and leaves.

Asura

  1. Creation of the first Asura Gate (as mentioned by the OP)
  2. Establishment of Rata Sum
  3. Victory over the Great Destroyer
  4. Festival of the Golems (Build your own golem and set it in a ring to compete against other golems in elimination rounds along a ladder progression. Alternately, these could be Asura Battlesuits and you duke it out in first-person against others in the ring.)
  5. The Season/Festival of a Thousand Crystals (Asura Christmas with Rata Sum decorated with a multitude of multi-colored crystal arrays)
  6. Polymock World Championship
  7. Celebration of the Turning of the Great Alchemy (Asura New Year perhaps)

Norn

  1. A celebration for each of the animal spirits (Bear, Raven, Snow Leaopard, Wolf)
  2. The Great Norn Alemoot
  3. Commemoration of their displacement due to Jormaag (Not normally something anyone would want to celebrate. But Norn look upon it as a challenge which will test them and make them stronger rather than considering it a shameful defeat as another race might.)
  4. The 257th Annual Bison Cup Brawl
  5. The Great Hunt (held the first thaw of each Spring to celebrate the passing of another Winter)

Human

  1. Founding of Divinity's Reach
  2. Anniversary of Queen Jenna's ascension to the throne and/or Queen Jennah's birthday
  3. A holiday for each one of the Six Gods
  4. Commemoration of the defeat of Abaddon
  5. Anniversary of the founding of the first Ascalonian settlement in Kryta
  6. Celebration of the defeat of the White Mantle and the Mursaat
  7. Celebration of the defeat of the Lich and the Titans
  8. Commemoration of Prince Rurik's sacrifice in seeing the Ascalonian refugees safely through the Shiverpeaks

Charr

  1. Anniversary of the founding of each of the Legions (as per the OP's suggestion)
  2. The Meat Festival (which I think was mentioned during the official GW2 site's Charr week)
  3. Celebration commemorating the reclaiming of their ancestral lands in Ascalon from the Humans
  4. Savage Week. No weapons; no armor; everyone has the same level, health, and energy; skillbar replaced with the same skills for any who enter the arena (maybe with a skill or two different based on profession and/or Legion affiliation); tooth and claw only. Last Charr standing wins or Charr who enter the arena are partied according to Legion and last Legion standing wins. Think Wintersday Snowball fight with a Charr twist.
  5. Running (alternately: Culling) of the Herds (Kind of like the Running of the Bulls in Pamplona only it's the Charr chasing the bulls rather than the other way around. Whoever can bring down the most bulls in a certain time limit or before all the bulls reach the finish line, wins.) Guild Wars 3 perhaps 21:23, 18 August 2011 (UTC)

Another one I think would be good for the Charr would be Kalla Scorchrazor Overthrowing the Flame Legion and gaining the right for female Charr to fight. Sounds like the type of thing that'd be celebrated to me. ;) Jarak 23:35, 25 October 2011 (UTC)
