I took that photograph of him on May 2, 2008, therefore it isn't a copyright violation as I own it.--*Yasmin Parvaneh* User yasmin parvaneh sig.png 21:24, 28 October 2009 (UTC)

Sorry, but nope. You own the photograph of him, but you don't own the image usage rights, as such you cannot release the image as GFDL.--Fighterdoken 21:27, 28 October 2009 (UTC)
What about the photos of me on my user page? None of those are tagged...in particular one of me with the band taken by their bodyguard with my camera. How does that work exactly where I don't own the usage rights of a photograph I took myself with my camera at an event I was at with the person in question? I altered it by cropping out the other band members and leaving just him. Legally, I do own that photo and all rights to it.--*Yasmin Parvaneh* User yasmin parvaneh sig.png 21:33, 28 October 2009 (UTC)
I don't think Simon Le Bon is copyrighted. I think he is a person, not intellectual property. Misery 21:34, 28 October 2009 (UTC)
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/File:User_yasmin_parvaneh_duran.jpg is my other photo. Please...if I need to email the band's management I will...but trust me, Simon doesn't care and please don't make me waste Jennifer and Katy's time. And, as Misery said, he is a person...its the actual photographic image that becomes someone's legal property...and as the photographer and owner of the camera that took the photo...it's legally mine.--*Yasmin Parvaneh* User yasmin parvaneh sig.png 21:37, 28 October 2009 (UTC)
(Edit conflict) What i mean is, you own the right over the image (as in, photograph) itself, you own the rights over your own "image" (as in, "your face")
What you don't own, though, is the rights over the "image" of other people (as in, "their face"). Unless you have explicit permission from them to release the photograph where they appear as GFDL content, you can't release it as such.
About tagging... i only tag what i see on RC :).--Fighterdoken 21:42, 28 October 2009 (UTC)

Simon Le Bon is my fucking property, Mis. And I will sue! Karate User Karate Jesus KJ for sig.png Jesus 21:43, 28 October 2009 (UTC)

@Misery... Try taking a photograph of a famous and then use it on a non-profit campaign for something they oppose to. Once you get sued, talk me back :) (see: Court rulings over CC content).--Fighterdoken 21:45, 28 October 2009 (UTC)

"The Copyright Law states that any image produced is automatically copyrighted to the originator regardless of the media format, photograph, song, book, negative etc... Therefore you may NOT copy a photograph without permission from the photographer.
"The Copyright Owner has complete and total control as to what may be done with the image. Therefore, if you wish to sell ,or even give, a photo to someone, permission must be requested from the originator." I am the originator, also, in the second photo...I'M IN IT. This is absolutely ridiculous and insulting.--*Yasmin Parvaneh* User yasmin parvaneh sig.png 21:47, 28 October 2009 (UTC)
Pretty sure tabloids don't pay royalty to stars they snap and print. If you are in public when your photo is taken you are in the public domain fucked. Misery 21:58, 28 October 2009 (UTC)

"Photographs and copyrights Wednesday, October 28, 2009 2:56 PM From: "Eva Diva Davis" <electricbarb27@yahoo.com> To: Katy Krassner "askkaty@duranduran.com" <askkaty@duranduran.com> Hello Katy,

Thank you for taking the time to answer this question. Last May I met you, Simon and the rest of the band in Concord CA (5-2-2008) and I took several photographs of myself with the band. I have a small user space on a game fansite where I have some of those photos posted. It has come into question if that is copyright infrigement, as they are claiming I do not own the rights to the photos I took. Now, I am familiar with copyright law, but rather than be nasty and drawn out with the site in question, I would just like to go ahead and ask for Simon and the band's permission to post the photos I took with them.

Below, if you need it, are links to my photobucket where I have the pictures hosted (though photobucket is not who has the issue).

Oh, and off the topic slightly, about the drawing I made him...I was so happy to finally give it to him in person. I'm so happy you were able to approve my MNG request. I hope he liked it as much as I liked making it for him.

Thank you so much for all you do!! And tell Simon HAPPY BIRTHDAY!! from me.

Thanks Katy!!

Love, Eva Diva~ " Response from her and the band is pending.--*Yasmin Parvaneh* User yasmin parvaneh sig.png 22:02, 28 October 2009 (UTC)

Again, you need to make clear that you intend to release the photos you took as GFDL content.--Fighterdoken 22:06, 28 October 2009 (UTC)
I'm sure Simon and crew don't know or care what that is. And when they say "we don't care" then I expect to be able to publish my property as I see fit.--*Yasmin Parvaneh* User yasmin parvaneh sig.png 22:10, 28 October 2009 (UTC)
Still, GFDL requires the contributors to be aware that their content is released under... GFDL, even if they don't know/care what it is..--Fighterdoken 22:11, 28 October 2009 (UTC)
I'm on her wiki page, does that mean I have to get permission? Does her 87 year old grandma have to sign into wiki and give permission? He's a person. Don't be a nazi --adrin User Adrin mysig.jpg 22:15, 28 October 2009 (UTC)
And what about the photographs of Duran Duran here: Duran's wiki page? That photo was taken at a concert in a similar fashion to mine. The official wiki has no issue with it. There is also a photograph of Simon here [w:Simon_Le_Bon|Simon Le Bon's wiki] taken by a fan in a similar fashion to mine at a concert. Should I find out if they emailed him for his ok??--*Yasmin Parvaneh* User yasmin parvaneh sig.png 22:18, 28 October 2009 (UTC)
Are the photos on that page licensed under the GFDL, as everything on GWW must be? – Emmett 22:20, 28 October 2009 (UTC)
Wikipedia and Simonwiki can reasonably claim fair use because they're both using the image in a relevant documentary fashion. Also, as your request e-mail is currently worded, you will have permission to use the image, but not to release it under the GDFL. Since all submissions to GWW are released under the GDFL, you can't use them here. D: User Felix Omni Signature.pngelix Omni 22:23, 28 October 2009 (UTC)

If Yasmin took the photo, Yasmin owns the copyright on it and may release it under any license she cares to. Period. End of story. - Tanetris 22:27, 28 October 2009 (UTC)

Thank you Tanetris :)I appriciate that. --*Yasmin Parvaneh* User yasmin parvaneh sig.png 22:28, 28 October 2009 (UTC)
Then the copyright to the other picture belongs to Simon Le Bon's bodyguard. User Felix Omni Signature.pngelix Omni 22:29, 28 October 2009 (UTC)
I assure you, Dave, their bodyguard, doesn't care. Since Tanetris settled this, can we remove the deletion tags?--*Yasmin Parvaneh* User yasmin parvaneh sig.png 22:30, 28 October 2009 (UTC)
and it's yasmin's camera, her property. --adrin User Adrin mysig.jpg 22:32, 28 October 2009 (UTC)
And I'm in that photo...I give my own consent. God, this is silly.--*Yasmin Parvaneh* User yasmin parvaneh sig.png 22:33, 28 October 2009 (UTC)
(ec up the wazoo) Way to be pedantic, Felix. I'm assuming Yasmin asked the bodyguard to take the picture for her, which can be understood as a work-for-hire, for which the copyright would again be Yasmin's. - Tanetris 22:36, 28 October 2009 (UTC)
Actually, it was Simon Le Bon himself who asked Dave to take the photos for us because I obviously wanted to be in the pictures.--*Yasmin Parvaneh* User yasmin parvaneh sig.png 22:39, 28 October 2009 (UTC)
Better send a couple more e-mails then :3 User Felix Omni Signature.pngelix Omni 22:40, 28 October 2009 (UTC)
your trolling is going into the negative numbers now. -6/10 i suggest you stop failing. --adrin User Adrin mysig.jpg 22:41, 28 October 2009 (UTC)

God, this is stupid.[edit]

God, this is stupid. You "letter of the law" people irritate me in ways that would be inappropriate to fully express here. User Raine R.gif is for Raine, etc. 07:21, 29 October 2009 (UTC)
