When?[edit]

When are you planning to start this? -- Peej 23:40, 10 June 2008 (UTC)

Im planning to start the event sometime near the midle of July, so it will end in August. I will update the times on website soon. --Burning Freebies 16:27, 19 June 2008 (UTC)
It's a nice idea, but in my opinion it's not really done well, most of it anyway. All the... max heal from word of healing.... most damage from keen arrow, most energy stolen from energy tap... ect. If anyone's really motivated to win they'll just boost the attribute up to 20 and bring a +1 offhand -.- And in specific, for the "word of healing" heal... Personally I'd just bring arcane mimicry and healer's boon. :x both competitors are in the same area, and it'd cause problems if both healers followed that strategy.... overall it's simply too... hit and miss. Nice idea, and I hope it goes well...

i agree with ^ nice try but only the running sounds like a contest. (edit) i think what would be cool is like fastest spike. strong spike. fastest heal. large heal. stuff like that sound more like a contest, what you have now besides running is kinda lame and to simple

Running isn't really a contest either tbh, because if winning gave a rewarding enough prize... I mean, I could simply just use A/E shadow form, with dwarven stability and dash for 50% run speed, and immunity to everything but signets, traps, and touch skills (ohnoes) Sure, your allies would gain 25% fater run speed and such from the essence you'd have to use, but you'd still be running 17% faster than their likely 33% run speed, so it'd be no contest. And conversely, if there is no reward, or not a tempting enough reward, simply 33% faster run speed from drunken master, only stopping to keep SF up all the time. shadow steps as necessary to speed up and beat the competition. Heck, you could just cast Recall on someone else, then dash and/or shadowstep at the last minute to ensure victory. In order for this to be a real contest... it has to be more... Challenging, and structured.

Heya[edit]

I just thought I'd stop by and say grats for putting this together. It sounds like it could be a good little summer event :)

I have to say though, and don't take this personally I know event organising is heavy work sometimes, but it looks to me like the orgnising needs tidying up quite a bit. For instance, Pepper doesn't play guild wars anymore and the other listed organisers haven't been assigned clear roles/responsibilities...I also know some of them have gone off on summer vacation already, so there needs to be some reworking there.

In the interests of being helpful, I thought of a few suggestions/points that you might want to consider. It's your event so it's totally up to you!

  • I think you should create a timetable for each event, saying what events are being run on what day, then work out how many organisers you need for that day...and do the math from there. From the number of events being run it looks to me like you could need anywhere up to 15 organisers for things to run smoothly. For an example of what I mean for the table, check out the Passage to Rata Sum: thread. You could copy and paste the table there and tweak it for your events, plug in the days, organiser names etc.
  • You need to have a set location for people to wait for an organiser/judge to escort them into each event, and a method of coordinating your organisers (ventrilo? Blade Radio?). I always find there needs to be someone constantly overseeing everything to make sure everyone who wants to participate is being picked up by an organiser, or being told where to wait and the name of the person who will pick them up. It's a full-time job for someone, so that person can't be judging events, they will need to be 100% dedicated to organising people.
  • If you end up with a backlog of people waiting for an organiser, it pays to have a plan to deal with it before hand. This usually involves some form of minor entertainment if the wait is more than 15 minutes.
  • For each event there needs to be a cut-off when it comes to people showing up to take part. Set an actual time so people are clear what the cut-off is.
  • The rules for each event need to be tidied up. In some cases it refers to the rules 'above' which isn't clear.
  • As you haven't organised a community event before, even though you're more than capable, one of the main problems you will face is that people wont want to give you any money for entry fees sipmly because you are an unknown-individual. If you want to overcome this problem, you can do what I used to do and gain approval from the head of a large alliance and ask for a designated treasurer (approved by the alliance leader) to be responsible for the entry fees collected. Alliances will always make sure their reputation is protected, so you can bet they'll only suggest a trustworthy treasurer if their name is being associated with the event, and the community expect that.
  • As a general comment, I always find it better to post an event idea on a forum first, get feedback from people, get things looking water-tight, then throw it up on wiki and turn the key. I think you get a better result that way and more people participate :)

Well that's all I can think of right now. I know it seems like a lot to take in, so feel free to whisp me in game, or send me an email bomb, whatever suits :P I'm happy to help more if needed. --User Angel 1.pngBunny - Angel talk 08:30, 6 July 2008 (UTC)

Thank you for your comment. I have to say, i will use some if not all of this info. Defnitely looks as if it will help me if i use it. I will create a time table when i have more participants. --Burning Freebies 20:47, 7 July 2008 (UTC)
