Not a ranger[edit]

Or at least the creatures don't have the same armor as ranger. Try this experiment yourself and see the results.

Assume they are rangers, and at level 22 should have a base AR of 76 ((3 x Level) + 10 ), with an additional 30 AR vs elemental damage, giving a total armor rating of 106 vs elemental damage.

The attack: Flare at rank 12 Fire Magic, which would deal 56 damage.

Assuming all of the above is true, the damage output should be 24.8. I assume with GW's rounding, we would be seeing 24s. (It does round down, right?)

But when you actually go out and cast Rank 12 Flare on them, you'll find they actually take 50 damage.

Now, consider a caster's armor level at level 22 with no ranger benefits (no additional AR vs elemental). You get a straight up 66 AR. Calculate what the damage ought to be, and you get 50.6 (shows as 50). Additionally, this is the effective damage on the Marrow Scarabs, which are level 22 casters as well.

I have screenshots for those who don't want to go out and test it themselves, but no imaging editor on this computer. I'll try to get them uploaded.

In the mean-time, what do you think? Ranger secondary perhaps?

As far as i know, NPCs are not limited to having the same armor rating than PCs.--Fighterdoken 08:06, 28 December 2009 (UTC)
I don't think that they are limited to the same armor rating as a PC. In fact, in this article you'll find their armor level is determined the same way a hero's is, with a few exceptions, such as Sand Wurms in the crystal desert.
However, I would argue that the Wurms too probably follow the same rules as all other creatures, but have a custom resistance to physical and elemental (roughly a total of 160 vs elemental damage). I would bet they actually have typical warrior armor rating for their level (66+20, with +20 vs physical), and a custom +74 (roughly) verses elemental, and who knows what else verses physical (haven't tested it yet).
Furthermore, Rock-Eater Scarabs (warriors skills) also have an AR due a caster. (60, given they are level 20)

Jade Mandibles[edit]

I've killed like 200 of them in Prophet's Path, and none of them dropped a single Jade Mandible. Unless someone brings some proof that they drop them, I'll think they put that here because they are also Crystal Desert Scarabs, and they assumed they'll drop them too like the Jade Scarabs.
