Zoner? meh[edit]

The quests have been out less than a week and there's already a popular name for this? (a) I somewhat doubt its use is widespread (yet) and (b) can't we come up with a better name? Wouldn't even Vanguard monkey be more...euphonious?  — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 08:38, 9 March 2011 (UTC)

I've seen "quest monkey" and "zone monkey" more commonly used. - Tanetris 09:45, 9 March 2011 (UTC)
Zoner is a popular term. In the case of the "Gate Monkey" it makes sense as a cultural reference to Zelda: Link to the Past (Re: Kiki), but with zoning, the task is something distinctly non-monkeyesque. Who has heard of a teleporting monkey? This term provides a distinction from normal gate monkey tasks. -Sahjiarah 15:12, 9 March 2011 (UTC)
Well people say quest monkey whether or not you find it appropriate, I'd suggest moving this article there. -Cursed Angel 熱 15:26, 9 March 2011 (UTC)
Wouldn't it make more sense to have a separate quest monkey page and just cross-reference them? The wiki wouldn't suffer from being thorough. Vanguard Zoner is also under fairly common usage. -Sahjiarah 18:28, 9 March 2011 (UTC)
Erm, it's the same concept; one article is more than enough. (Or maybe you meant a redirect from one to the other?)
Since the term can't be any older than a week, we can choose to wait to see how the community decides and change the name later. Or we can recognize that, for things like this, this wiki influences the choice of terms. Quest Monkey is derived from Gate Monkey whereas Vanguard Zoner takes too long to say or write. (Regardless, we can setup redirects whenever we like for however many terms end up remaining in common usage.)  — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 18:42, 9 March 2011 (UTC)
I guess the literal term should be "Leveling Prostitute". But that would neither be politically correct, or easy to type.Osman Digna 21:20, 10 March 2011 (UTC)
Yeah, I'd never heard of a "vanguard zoner" prior to searching for the "quest monkey" page. I second (third, fourth, whichever) the motion of redirecting "Vanguard zoner" searches to the "Quest monkey" page, at least until we hear from a second person who has used the term "Vanguard zoner." --RoyHarmon 17:53, 16 March 2011 (UTC)
Maybe no one should be glorifying or given credit for the term nor should the term be monikered due to ANET's own statement "Previously, foe levels were determined by the party member with the highest level; this was exploited by high-level quest monkeys who would enter an area to spawn the higher-level foes and then map out. " Emphasis on "exploit". It seems, to me, to be more along the lines of an insult for exploiting the game when ANET was trying to ease the pain of leveling in pre. Knowing that it is only a noob training area and not intended for extended play. --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:Oliasys (talk).
Regardless of whether it's a good thing, a bad thing, or unimportant to the game, it's a service that many people provided or paid for ... and for that reason alone, it deserves a reasonable name.  — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 20:09, 16 March 2011 (UTC)
Does it really need a separate page when it was stopped after one week? No one'll care in a few months. 24.197.253.243 20:24, 16 March 2011 (UTC)
People are still doing it, but on a much smaller scale (some people want easier foes sometimes). It can probably be deleted.  — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 20:27, 16 March 2011 (UTC)
While the purpose of the wiki is to document the game, it also documents unimplemented content and historical content. Either way, be sure to delete this talk page and Quest monkey if it gets deleted. --'Mai Yi' {TC} 20:32, 16 March 2011 (UTC)
As much as I think this page should stay up, I'll be polite. Don't forget to delete VZ too. Also note that there is a link to Vanguard_zoner on the game updates page. -Sahjiarah 21:34, 18 March 2011 (UTC)

(Reset indent) If this term is no longer used in game (I don't see how it could be, tbh), then I support deletion. If people are still doing this, then can we remove that delete tag? -- Konig/talk 18:14, 6 May 2011 (UTC)

Why not just mark it as "historical content," like Hero Battles or something? Possibly in addition to renaming it "quest monkey." --RoyHarmon 19:43, 14 May 2011 (UTC)
Because (a) not that many people used it and (b) it was unofficially used for a matter of days. I don't think we need to document every term that went in/out of fashion before some people even knew about it. (In contrast, HB was a longtime feature, not a passing fad.) — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 19:49, 14 May 2011 (UTC)
