Ideas

A very basic place for me to put ideas/suggestions/rants/opinions/whatever else I want.

Players = Scholars?

I think it would be really cool to give the players who enjoy writing a chance to become a part of GW history. Perhaps hold a competition for players to write little stories about the exploits that occur between GW and GW2 - nothing big or game-changing - but a chance to fill in little details in the 250 year history. Give very general guidelines and mandate that the stories be about small happenings that would not affect the game plot... I don't know if this could work, but it would be awesome to see some tiny flare in GW2 and recognize one of my friends in-games old character names as a scholar who recorded a bit of GW history. Meh, just another idea.

Tactical Skills

Many games have these types of abilities that are WAY out of the way for normal progression and are EXTREMELY conditional, but very good within those conditions. D&D has it, for example, in some of the feats available (weapon styles, or just tactical feats). An example of how cool this could be in Guild Wars (most likely PvE-only, since they could easily be overpowered) would be a skill like "Phalanx: Requires at least 4 party members with shield equips to be adjacent to one another and to have the skill "Phalanx" on their skillbar. As long as this stance is active, all party members who meet the above qualifications activate the stance as well; while active, this stance grants 75% reduction to projectile damage and an additional 50% chance to block arrows but all members move at 25% of their normal speed. If any party member who has "Phalanx" active moves out of adjacent range to the other party members with "Phalanx" active, the stance ends for all party members."

I'm not sure if these kind of checks even exist within GW to make a skill like this, but it's just an example, and could open a lot of doors for new team setups in PvE.

Hero Orders

It would be cool if you could almost "program" your heroes to prioritize specific tasks. It could be done like it was in NWN by initiating a dialogue with your heroes when you're in an explorable area and them presenting you with many options. I know we already have the Attack, Guard, Avoid Combat options as well as the ability to lock targets. But it would be cool to set a persistent goal for each hero (maybe henchmen?). For example, if you had Koss, Tahlkora, and Norgu you could dialogue each of them and tell Koss "Defense -> Guard -> Party Monks" and then tell Tahlkora "Avoid Combat -> Flee -> Priority: Healing -> Second Priority: Resurrect" and tell Norgu "Guard -> Priority: Interrupt -> Primary Target: Monks -> Secondary Target: Elementalists"

It would be nice because you would be able to target whoever you want without worrying about all your heroes switching targets at an inopportune moment.

Leet PvP

Arcane Echo -> Echo -> Frenzy -> Echo (Arcane Echo Copy) -> Healing Signet Technique: Spam the skillz

Please Note: If you think you can beat this build, you're wrong - always.

Armor Leasing

Note: This is more of a joke than a real suggestion.

I was browsing some GW forums and a relatively new player (ie not more than one level 20 and not extremely rich) was asking about making money so he could buy this 15k armor he heard about, and looked up online. Someone jokingly replied after a while that it was too bad that the armor crafters didn't have a leasing program. How cool would that be? It would be a nice way for players to get the armor they want. I know it's not likely to become reality, and I don't think it should. But it could be a payment plan with the armor crafter (instead of a friend who already has the money) and if you don't pay on time they could send hostile NPCs after you when you're in explorable areas... Imagine getting roughed up by a few angry dwarven collections agents. I think it would be hillarious.

Beast Mastery

I actually love this attribute, even as a Ranger primary. It's so cool to see a pet whoop a Warrior's butt, either in PvE or PvP. But it's often neglected. If you're not using EoE or Predatory Season, or being a Bunny Thumper there's generally little desire to play a Beast Master and almost no room for one in most team builds that have predefined needs. There are two things that could fix this. Both are unlikely.

  1. Have more people play Beast Masters...like real beast masters. They're good, I swear. I've actually been using a very odd Beast Master team to Vanquish parts of Elona. Me (R), Margrid, Jin, and Morgahn. Three beastmasters and a "Go for the Eyes!" paragon. We kick butt, harcore. This would show people that non-bunny thumpers with points in beast mastery can be decent... Oh, and the reason I liked this for vanquishing is because pets don't suffer from death penalty, and when you essentially bond them, make them regen, attack 25% faster, give them +24 armor and make them unblockable, and give them base damage reduction along with an attack that now deals +80 dmg every 5 seconds...you've got a powerful pet. Especially when it's a dire black widow.
  2. This one is totally unlikely at this stage in the game, but would still be interesting to see. Make pets learn some sort of trick based on ranks in Beast Mastery. I know, it would probably overpower beast mastery - making it have an extra function over almost every other attribute in the game (I mean, it already affects skills, critical attack rate, and damage scale of pets), but it's still a cool concept. I'm not sure exactly what I mean by this, to be honest. I thought I had ideas at first, but I've forgotten what they are. They were cool, though, I swear.
